The role:

The role ensures the health and safety of the people working within several sections of the role’s responsibility by adhering to all legislative requirements, Seriti Fatal Risk and other standards and ensuring that Safe Work Procedures are followed and providing guidance and clarification on procedures, standards and guidelines.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

• Legal appointment in terms of section 7(4) and regulation 2.15.1 of the MHSA
• Observe and ensure safe execution of day-to-day production activities to achieve zero harm
• Enforce discipline in area of responsibility
• Allocate and manage resources for execution of production activities
• Ensure all Codes of Practices and Standard Operating Procedures are understood and adhered to

Requirements:

• Grade 12 with Math (Not Literacy) and English Language
• Further Education and Training Certificate in Mining Operations - NQF Level 4
• UG Rock Breaking/Blasting qualification for fiery mines
• Minimum 2 years appointed as a Faceboss in a production environment
• Knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act
• Good communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills with strong administrative skills
• Ability to plan, co-ordinate and control activities
• Be able to cope with pressure, be innovative and a self-starter
• Sound knowledge of Safety Systems, Regulations and Standards with a high regard to safety and an excellent safety record
• Valid driver’s license
• In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness

Advantageous:

• Flameproofing and gas testing certificates
• Previous experience in a leadership role
• Experience on blasting (Stonework), ventilation, pumping work and road building
