    Sonographer

    About the job

    This is a fixed-term contract position, renewable based on continuation of funding

     

    Our Client within the NGO Sector is looking to appoint a Sonographer who will provide high-quality ultrasound services in keeping with the Woman and Child status of hospitals and feeder clinics; this entails gynaecological scans with complicated pathology, paediatric scans and detailed obstetric anomaly scans

     

    • Provide high-quality ultrasound services for the project facilities’ Woman and Child Health units

    • Provide outreach services to the feeder clinics of Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital

    • Provide correct interpretation of all ultrasound scans, compiling comprehensive reports as required

    • Monitor pregnancy through confirmation and notification of birth defects/anomalies and referral to the attending doctor

    • Prepare weekly, monthly and annual NPER/ BDS reports

    • Participate in training and research

    • Maintain ethical standards and professional growth and self-development processes

    • Demonstrate a concern for patients by applying and advocating for optimal treatment and care and promoting an awareness and willingness to respond to patient needs

    • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure cost-effective, equitable and efficient health care services

    • Execute all clinical procedures competently whilst adhering to protocols, practices and techniques, and preventing complications

    • Inspect and utilise equipment to ensure compliance with safety standards

    • Perform Quality Assurance tests and procedures as agreed in the Department

    • Play an active role in the implementation of quality improvement programmes to support fulfillment of the Office of Health Standards (OHSC) and Ideal Clinic Realisation and Maintenance programme requirements

     

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Appropriate qualification: Diploma/Degree in Diagnostic Ultrasound

    • Certificate of current registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Diagnostic Ultrasound Sonographer and confirmation of annual practice as an independent practitioner

    • Excellent knowledge of high-risk obstetrics and gynaecology, and of general, small parts, vascular, and musculoskeletal scanning techniques, protocols and procedures

    • Knowledge of sonographic equipment and accessories associated with relevant techniques

    • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and other relevant Acts, Regulations and policies

    • Knowledge and performance of basic Quality Assurance test requirements and recording thereof

    • Sound communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills

    • A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel
