    Specialist Scientist or Senior Scientist

    Core Requirements: Core Requirements:
    Specialist Scientist (higher level)

    • A PhD or equivalent in public health, health policy and systems research, or epidemiology, with a strong background in health economics.
    • Research experience in the area of health economics.
    • Principle investigator on at least one health economics-related project.
    • Skills and experience in undertaking all stages of primary research.
    • Research project management, including human resource, finance, and data management.
    • Publication of at least 5 ISI peer-reviewed journal articles, with 3 as first author.
    • At least two first-authored peer-reviewed publications in the field of health policy and systems or health economics.
    • Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills with experience of transferring these skills through training and supervision of junior staff

    •  

    Senior Scientist (lower level)

    • Registered for a PhD or equivalent in public health, health policy and systems research, or epidemiology, with a strong background in health economics, and having made substantial progress towards completion of PhD
    • Research experience in the area of health economics.
    • Principle investigator on at least one health economics-related project.
    • Skills and experience in undertaking all stages of primary research.
    • Research project management, including human resource, finance, and data management.
    • Publication of at least 2 first-authored, peer-reviewed publications (one must be ISI).
    • At least one peer-reviewed publication in the field of health policy and systems or health economics.
    • Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills

    •  

    Advantageous

    • Health econometrics training and expertise.
    • A background in systematic reviews / evidence synthesis and related knowledge translation research on health policy and systems questions
    • Experience in knowledge translation such as contribution to a policy process or informing provincial or national governments or international institutions on policy and practice-related health systems evidence
    • Experience with grant development and scientific review of proposals

    A salary in the region of R749 401 (lower level) to R820 660 (higher level) cost-to-company will be negotiated.
