    Sports Coach- Hockey

    Job Purpose

    • The Hockey Coach is responsible for training and developing students in various sporting disciplines by enhancing their skills, fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The role includes planning and conducting training sessions, preparing teams for competitions, officiating at sporting events where required, and maintaining accurate sports administration records.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Grade 12
    • Proven participation and success in Hockey (e.g. First Team participation at school level)
    • 2–4 years coaching experience
    • Police Clearance
    • Reference checks

    Ideal Requirements

    • Degree or studies towards Sport Science or Physical Education
    • Coaching certification (e.g. Cricket South Africa, Boksmart)
    • Refereeing certification
    • First Aid / CPR certification

    Key Responsibilities
    Training & Development

    • Plan and implement Hockey training programmes
    • Mentor and motivate students/athletes
    • Promote discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship
    • Ensure athlete safety and adherence to health and safety standards

    Skill Instruction

    • Teach sport-specific skills, techniques, and tactics
    • Improve athlete performance through drills and conditioning
    • Ensure understanding of soccer rules and regulations
    • Stay updated on sporting trends and developments

    Event Participation

    • Prepare and guide teams during competitions
    • Attend regional and national sporting events
    • Assist with team selection and game strategies
    • Officiate at sporting events when required

    Collaboration & Communication

    • Provide regular feedback and constructive coaching
    • Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and officials
    • Build positive relationships and motivate athletes

    Sports Administration

    • Maintain attendance registers and performance records
    • Prepare training schedules and coordinate logistics
    • Manage sport-related administrative duties

    Experience Levels
    Senior coaches may require:

    • 5–10 years coaching experience
    • Level 3 coaching qualification
    • Experience coaching first and second teams and officiating at tournaments
