    SSA TTS Risk & Controls Manager

    The role of a TTS SSA Risk & Controls Manager is a critical one.  The primary function is to focus on risk governance including the anticipation, mitigation and recovery of Business Risk.  One of the key functions of this role is to conduct deep dives of significant operational events to determine sequence of events, control weaknesses, errors in judgment, policy or technical deficiencies, and working with relevant product and functional partners develop Corrective Action Plans.  Once it is understood why the event occurred, apply that knowledge to avoid or mitigate future events applying the lessons learnt process and communication with the wider group/stake holders.

    Working with colleagues in the TTS Business and Functional Partners in other parts of Citi, the TTS SSA Risk & Controls Manager is expected to perform the following:

    develop strong relationships with country and regional business and Risk & Controls partners for providing value added advisory and independent oversight
    analyze risk data (typically losses, metrics or assessment results) to identify areas of excessive risk and also to ensure mitigation efforts implemented are having the desired effect
    investigate what is causing metrics to deviate from trend and escalating situations that pose excessive risk
    identify root causes of major internal or external events and ensuring best practices are shared with others
    The candidate will be viewed as a thought leader on risk management both at country/cluster level and a valuable partner for country/cluster business, functions and regional Risk & Controls to opine on, to escalate residual and emerging risks, to implement global/regional driven initiatives to manage risk. 

    Job Background/context:

    Treasury and Trade Solutions (TTS) is an integral part of Citibank’s Institutional Clients group, serving public sector clients, corporates and financial institutions in over 120 countries. The group is a leading provider of cash management, Trade, Securities and Fund services to financial institutions and corporate clients around the world.  The group is thus uniquely positioned to service clients with local and cross-border interests and provide integrated reporting and management. With this mandate comes risk.

    An essential element of serving our clients is managing the risks and ongoing exposures that arise from the development and delivery of products and services to our clients.  These risks are multifaceted and could result from inadequate or failed internal processes, human factors or systems, or from external events.  Broadly these are:

    • Process risks such as execution, business disruption, systems failures
    • Conduct risks such as business practices, market conduct, employment practices, workplace safety, internal theft & fraud
    • External risks such as damage to physical assets, external theft & fraud and regulatory
    • Legal, franchise and reputational risk

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Inform and Influence management understanding of the inherent Risks in the TTS SSA business
    • Business Risk Mitigation together with the TTS Heads and Product Managers
    • Alert  colleagues  to relevant risks and assist with formulating appropriate responses, corrective actions (CAPs) in a timely manner
    • Coordinate Risk Identification, Assessment and Analysis, Managers Control Assessments (MCA)
    • Facilitate the implementation of and measurement of TTS Key Operational Risks, escalations, mitigation, key risk indicators and targets
    • Consolidate, analyze and review operational risk losses, events and other indicators such as timely escalation and reporting
    • Lead or contribute to initiatives to identify, assess and reduce operational risk within the product/s
    • Support review and approval of new product proposals/product program extensions requiring NPAC/CSR/NPA reviews
    • Communicate and share analyses regularly with product management and selectively attend product governance meetings (e.g., BRCC, Management Committees, etc.) where delegated

    Person Specification

    Knowledge/Experience:

    • 5 -7 years post-graduation experience
    • Experience of work in a process driven environment
    • Highly organized with strong business management skills. Demonstrated people leadership / management
    • Good knowledge of TTS  products
    • A good understanding of the operational workings underpinning the businesses would also be hugely beneficial
    • Mandatory working experience in a least 3 major areas of Banking

    Skills:

    • Highly developed problem analysis and solution skills
    • Strong organizational and follow-up skills and the ability to multi-task effectively
    • Strong influencing skills and ability to work in an environment where priorities are frequently changing

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    • University Degree
    • Highly organized with strong program management skills.
    • Analytical inquisitiveness and problem solving ability; an ability to ask insightful questions, break analytical challenges into workable components and draw meaningful conclusions
    • Demonstrated people leadership / management Skills
    • Strategic Business thinker, highly developed problem analysis and solution skills
    • Strong influencing skills and ability to work in an environment where priorities are frequently changing
    • Demonstrated execution skills, ensures closure
    • Ability to collaborate with and lead others to achieve objectives:  knows how to lead through influence (rather than command/control)
