Strata Control Officer C1 at Implats

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

• To assist with monitoring and advising Shaft Management on underground audits results regarding rock related risks and support recommendations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Grade 10 / Std8- Maths & Science is essential.
• Blasting Certificate will be an advantage.
• One part Chamber of Mines Certificate (Strata Control) is essential.
• 2 years mining and stoping experience in the Rock Eng Dept is essential
• Medical Certificate or be medically fit to in order to obtain such certificate.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Monitor the stability of all excavations
• Monitor and assess the installation quality and quantity of various support units
• Identify signs of stress-induced damage in mining
• Conduct inspections to evaluate ground conditions in an on-reef development excavation prior to, during and after ledging operations
• Identify and evaluate signs of deteriorating ground conditions during the mining process
• Assess the ground conditions using the Q-Rating System
• Assess gully stability under different geotechnical conditions
• Identify common support failure modes from observations
• Conduct elementary in-situ tests of support installation quality
• Inspect compliance to a set standards with regards to ground and support conditions
• Identify the effect of seismic activity on the rock mass and support units
