Supervisor Driver (Ganger Driver) at eThekwini Municipality

Job Purpose
To undertake relevant tasks and activities pertaining to the laying of cables and planting of poles; including the motivation and supervision of staff.

Key Responsibility Areas

• Interprets planned reticulation drawings and drawings of sketches of services installed.
• Supervises, motivates, trains and disciplines staff in the team to ensure consistent and acceptable productivity levels.
• Ensures that excavation, tunnelling, shoring, laying of cable ducts and road crossings are to required specifications.
• Ensures that back-filling and compaction of trenches and pole holes are in compliance with standards.
• Supervises the construction of joint bays and the covering thereof, ensuring the site is left in a clean and tidy condition after completion of the job.
• Drives a heavy duty truck towing a trailer or compressor to transport staff, materials and equipment to site.
• Completes relevant internal documentation e.g. vehicle log sheets, reconciles materials as required.
• Promotes safety and accident prevention at the workplace as per his or her appointment under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (1993) as directed.

Essential Requirements

• Grade 10 or equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle driving license (Code C1 or EC).
• Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
• 2 Years relevant experience.

Preferred Requirements

• Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
• 3 Years relevant experience.
