Supervisor Internal Control at Gold Fields Limited

The Supervisor Internal Control is accountable for participating in the evaluation, monitoring and design control environment (SOX) – that builds capability of operational line leadership and their teams to develop self-assurance and to become more self-sufficient to proactively identify, manage and maintain the Risk and Governance environment

Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Tertiary qualified with a degree in the Auditing or Accounting discipline (Certified Internal Auditor qualification, Certified system auditor or Accounting Degree with majors in Auditing and Accounting)
• Have at least 3-5 years audit / internal control or financial accounting experience in a mining / financial industry environment
• Computer Literate (Office packages, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Be in possession of a code 08 (EB) drivers licence
• Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

Key Competencies:

• Proven personal safety record
• Excellent English oral and written communication skills
• SAP ERP/GRC experience will be beneficial
• Intermediate audit skills - Proven track record in planning, conducting and monitoring routine audits / assessments and special investigations
• Collaborative engagement and relationship building capability – self-assurance
• Proven track record in the practical application of sampling theory and sampling techniques
• In-depth understanding of controls auditing / external auditing with the ability to perform application, general control reviews and fieldwork
• Proven ability to work independent of direct supervision, applies initiative and deadline driven
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment
• Exhibit a well-organised work method

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Actively participate in Safety, Health, Environmental and Risk management and PVFL campaigns
• Schedule, lead and monitor SOX compliance audits, reporting on sufficiency of application and controls and, recommending remedial actions as required
• Participate in and lead assigned risk assessment/management facilitation sessions, assurance audits, investigations, etc.
• Develop scope, schedule and conduct routine IT/system audits and perform ad hoc investigations as required
• Liaise with Internal and External auditors to address audit and assurance plans, reports, areas of concern, etc. and report on findings, potential control weaknesses and suggested remedial actions as required
• Draft, collate, publish and ensure the safe storage of audit reports
• Assist operational management in developing policies, procedures and systems by providing guidance and coaching on improving operational governance and risk management controls
• Facilitate annual control framework reviews with business process owners
• Draw monthly reports on exceptional items using the auditing tool and compile required reports for engagement with management
• Create new or update existing business process flow diagrams as required
