    Supplier Management Specialist

    Job Description    

    • The purpose of this role is to drive supplier management best practice and standardisation by leading initiatives focused on supplier risk, performance, and enterprise supplier development. This role contributes to enhanced procurement effectiveness, improved supplier relationships, and supports DBSA’s transformation and sustainability goals through proactive supplier development and sourcing practices.

    Key Responsibilities    
    Supplier Risk Management

    • Conduct ongoing risk profiling and segmentation of the supplier base.
    • Develop;mplement and manage a supplier risk assessment framework.
    • Monitor supplier risk exposure and escalate emerging risks.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align supplier risk mitigation actions with business continuity requirements.

    Supplier Performance Management Processes

    • Develop supplier performance frameworks and scorecards.
    • Monitor, evaluate, and report on supplier performance against contractual and service level expectations.
    • Facilitate supplier performance reviews with key stakeholders.
    • Identify underperformance trends and drive corrective action planning with suppliers.
    • Maintain supplier risk and performance data in appropriate systems.
    • Contribute to the development of supplier-related dashboards, reports, and presentations.
    • Participate in procurement audits and support continuous improvement initiatives.

    Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD) Initiatives

    • Design and implement ESD programmes aligned to the DBSA’s transformation strategy
    • Engage with suppliers to drive capability development
    • Collaborate with internal and external partners to unlock access to markets and funding for qualifying suppliers
    • Track and report ESD progress against targets and compliance frameworks

    Strategic Sourcing and Procurement Transformation

    • Provide supplier insights and data to inform category strategies and sourcing decisions.
    • Partner with category managers and sourcing teams to identify value opportunities.
    • Champion supplier innovation and value-add through collaborative engagements.

    Reporting and Monitoring

    • Produce accurate, insightful reports and continuously monitor key metrics to assess progress against objectives.
    • Analyse data to identify trends, inform strategic decisions, and provide stakeholders with clear, actionable information that supports ongoing performance improvement and accountability

    Key Measurements of Outputs

    • Percentage of supplier performance compliance rate based on quality, delivery, pricing and responsiveness
    • Cost savings, quality improvements or efficiency gains achieved through strategic sourcing initiatives
    • Percentage of suppliers’ compliance with DBSA standards and traceability of DBSA compliance documentation
    • Number of supplier risks identified and mitigated, and reduction in supply chain vulnerabilities
    • Average time to resolve supplier disputes and number of disputes resolved without escalation
    • Number of supplier engagement activities conducted, and feedback received from suppliers on relationship quality
    • Percentage of supplier reports submitted on time and rate of errors in compliance and performance data
    • Percentage of suppliers passing internal or external compliance audits
    • Number of procurement or supplier management processes and efficiency improved
    • Average time taken to onboard new suppliers from verification to activation

    Expertise & Technical Competencies    
    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration or Logistics or Equivalent (NQF 7)

    Desirable Requirements

    • Postgraduate qualification in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration or Logistics or Equivalent.
    • Professional certification in Certification in Procurement or Supply Chain (e.g., Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply – CIPS, The Professional Body for Supply Chain Management – SAPICS or Equivalent).

    Experience

    Minimum Experience

    • A Minimum of 8 years of experience in supplier management, strategic sourcing and procurement.
    • Proven track record of managing supplier performance and compliance.
    • Understanding of PFMA, BBBEE Act, PPPFA and National Treasury Regulations.
    • Experience working across multiple supplier categories
    • Understanding of supplier management principles and practices.
    • Awareness of ESG (Environmental, Social, & Governance) standards and ethical sourcing practices. Familiarity with supplier verification processes.
    • Knowledge of public procurement in South Africa

    Desirable Experience

    • Experience in procurement analytics, supplier performance scorecards, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle).
