Technical Advisory Accountant at FirstRand Group

Purpose

• The purpose of the Advisory Services team is to maintain and update Group technical accounting frameworks, standards, policies, processes and procedures using current industry standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist advice and support to internal and external stakeholders
• Monitor compliance and consistent application of policies and procedures by Group entities (including Non-IFRS for example financial reporting control and related frameworks)
• Develop, maintain and distribute reporting frameworks and templates that comply with accounting standards including the financial statements and reporting pack templates
• Write definitions for elements of the reporting frameworks
• Review financial statements for IFRS compliance
• Prepare technical accounting content for training of the financial reporting community Presentation and co-ordination of financial reporting related training
• Participate in SAICA, IASB and other discussion forums on new accounting issues
• Prepare accounting opinions; co-ordinate sign off with auditors and assist business units with implementation
• Develop reporting pack instructions
• Participation in ad hoc projects where the tasks are of a medium to high complexity
• Participate in technical accounting projects including the implementation of new accounting standards
• Personal professional development is maintained

Experience and qualifications

• CA (SA)
• 0-4 years post article experience- technical experience an advantage     
• Knowledge of Financial services industry would be an advantage
