Technical Scrum Master at DotModus

What is the main purpose of this role?

To be the facilitator for the agile development team; to guide and coach and ensure self-organisation and quick change management, in accordance with agile principles and to manage the process for how information is exchanged. Responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of teams by managing key technical programs, championing delivery success and operationalizing underlying processes to ensure effective delivery teams. Resolve impediment, monitor and have control over the scrum processes and meetings.

Responsibilities

• Take full responsibility for the definition, approach, facilitation and satisfactory completion of projects  
• Identify, assess and manage risks to the success of the project.
• Ensure that realistic project plans are maintained and regular and accurate communication is given to stakeholders, consistent with the methods in use (agile, waterfall, etc).
• Ensure Quality reviews occur on schedule and according to procedure.
• Manage the change control procedure, and ensure that project deliverables are completed within agreed cost, timescale and resource budgets, and are signed off.
• Provide effective leadership to the project team, and takes appropriate action where team performance deviates from agreed tolerances.
• Implement stakeholder engagement/ communications plans and use feedback from customers and stakeholders to manage the effectiveness of stakeholder management.
• Help develop and enhance customer and stakeholder relationships.
• Maintain an in-depth knowledge of specific specialisms, and provide expert advice regarding their application.
• Ensure daily, weekly and monthly agile practices are running effectively and strictly.
• Facilitate daily scrum, sprint planning, sprint demo, and retrospective meetings and facilitate/participate in key Agile rituals across Scrum teams.
• Ensure the project is working smoothly and every team member has tools to get their work done efficiently.
• Ensure that time logging is done and up to date
• Ensure ticket estimations are captured and recorded accurately
• Ensure project backlog is fully groomed at all times 
• Facilitate team's progress.
• Assessing the Scrum Maturity of the team and organisation and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity.
• Ensures the DoD (Definition of Done) is being followed and help educate the team in Scrum, Extreme Programming (XP), SAFE, ensuring that the agreed Agile process is being followed.
• Enables the team to self-organise, self-manage and deliver via effective Lean-Agile practices.
• Facilitate discussion, decision-making, and conflict resolution within an open and trusting environment. Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and providing information.
• Support Product Owner and assist the team in preparation for ART activities, including PI Planning, System Demos and the Inspect and Adapt.
• Co-ordination with other teams, representing in the Scrum of Scrums (SoS) meeting and facilitating feedback of information.

Certifications

• Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM) (Essential)
• SAFe 4.0 Scrum Master (SSM) (Advantage)
• Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) (Advantage)
• Other project management qualifications

Experience required 

• 3-5 years scrum master experience in an ICT environment, managing software projects and working with software development teams
• Demonstrable experience of Scrum Management
• Familiarity with Agile concepts and principles, i.e. Agile experience
• Planning experience
• Working knowledge of software and hardware development processes
• Knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Scrum, eXtreme Programming (XP), etc.
• Awareness and experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games.
• Applicable knowledge of the technologies used by the team.
• The experience in applying a wide variety of well-documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: various Burndown technologies, many Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc.)
• General management or operational experience
• Broad knowledge of software industry and technology trends
• Experience with contemporary software development methodologies
• Ability to coordinate large teams with cross-functional dependencies
• Excellent facilitation ability, using scrum values of openness, honesty, and respect to facilitate conflict resolution
• Ability to effectively coach and mentor the team, allowing them to develop the habits they need to be more successful and empowered to make decisions.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.
