    Technical Writer/Editor

    About the Role

    • As an Editor, you will play a key role in creating and maintaining high-quality legal content for law report publications. Working closely with colleagues and external contributors, you will help ensure content is accurate, relevant, and published on schedule across print and digital formats. You will contribute to the integrity of legal reporting by applying strong editorial judgement, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality.

    Responsibilities

    • Undertake editorial tasks including proofreading and writing headnotes for publications across the UK Law Reports portfolio to agreed quality standards, house style, and timelines
    • Manage title responsibilities including case selection and scheduling to ensure content is published accurately and on time in print and electronic formats
    • Monitor legal developments to ensure content remains current and relevant
    • Flag concerns relating to anonymization, reporting restrictions, and any other matters affecting the reportability of judgments
    • Identify and communicate risks to publishing schedules
    • Liaise with external editors, authors, freelancers, judges, and judges’ clerks
    • Manage relationships with authors, external editors, and freelancers
    • Maintain editorial and stylistic standards, including updating or developing style guides and manuals

    Requirements

    • Law degree or equivalent qualification
    • Professional legal qualification desirable but not essential
    • Experience in editorial/legal publishing or case summarization with a demonstrated interest in the law
    • Experience in legal publishing or editing, ideally involving law reporting or working with case materials
    • Experience working collaboratively within a team environment
    • Excellent verbal communication, editing skills, and written English with the ability to understand, navigate, and present complex legal materials
    • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize work and meet frequent deadlines
    • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), SharePoint, and an interest in learning new systems and technologies
