Technician, Electrical - Lephalale at Exxaro Resources

PURPOSE:

To provide specialized high-level technical support and maintenance services within all designated functional areas.

Minimum Requirements    

QUALIFICATIONS:

• N Dip: Engineering (Essential/Minimum)
• B Tech Electrical Engineering (Recommended/Desirable)
• Certificate First Line Management (Recommended/Desirable)

EXPERIENCE:

• 3-5 years Technical operations experience in a Mining /Plant/Heavy Operations environment Essential/Minimum Operational

REQUIREMENTS:

• Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum)
• Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum)

Duties & Responsibilities    

POSITION TASKS:

The incumbent will inter alia be responsible for the following:

Best Practice and Knowledge Management

• Initiate continuous improvement initiatives leading to cost saving opportunities
• Liaise with other departments toward evaluating new technologies to improve process capabilities, product quality and throughput requirements
• Conduct research, trend analyses, feasibility studies and benchmarking exercises

Compliance, Governance and Assurance

• Develop/maintain/improve safe operational/engineering standards and continuously review specifications/schedules
• Ensure equipment integrity maintained according to safety standards
• Maintain Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and related systems, aligned with safety standards/Occupational Health/Safety and Environment registers/ International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 14000; 9000 and 18001 systems
• Conduct timeous investigation of incidents and ensure adequate remedial action
• Execute/drive safety programs
• Ensure effective risk management by identifying hazardous activities and mitigation measures

Customer, Stakeholder and Client Relationship Management

• Manage internal and external relations, including interface with external providers or other functions responsible to ensure that business needs are met, and employees are satisfied

Equipment Operations and Control

• Plan, implement and maintain electrical infrastructure reticulation and installations
• Responsible for design development/maintenance of following processes: automation and protection systems
• Ensure effective software control and security protocols on all networks
• Develop/implement/maintain system to ensure upkeep of electrical drawings/diagrams/ Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals as well as network protection settings

Safe and Healthy Work Environment

• Adhere to all health and safety practices and promote good housekeeping on an ongoing basis
• Address all unsafe practices and potential hazardous situations, rectify/report to superior
• Comply with Safety Health Environment and Community (SHEC)/ /technical requirements
• Wear applicable Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) at all times

Technical Support

• Ensure effective delivery of service through high level maintenance/specialised technical support
• Make recommendations to Business Unit (BU)/Line Managers with regards to appropriate Electrical Engineering techniques
• Conduct audits and inspections on installations/equipment/facilities
• Conduct Project planning/co-ordinate/implementation
• Conduct preventative maintenance/ Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM)/trouble shooting/root cause failure analysis
• Ensure optimal equipment performance
• Oversee cross functional training/development of Artisans/Technicians
• Provide timeous/accurate feedback to customers
