Technician (Telecoms) - Hay Level 12/C1 at NECSA

Key Performance Areas  

VoIP System Management

• Design, implement, and maintain VoIP systems to facilitate voice communication over the organization's network.
• Configure and manage IP-based telephony equipment, including PBX (Private Branch Exchange) systems, routers, switches, and IP phones.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation for both VoIP and network configurations, changes, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Develop network diagrams and documentation for reference and training purposes Optimize network settings to prioritise voice traffic and minimize latency.

Network Design and Optimisation

• Plan and design the organisation's network architecture, ensuring it supports the requirements of VoIP systems.
• Optimise network configurations to prioritise and enhance the Quality of Service (QoS) for voice traffic.
• Configure and deploy network hardware, including routers, switches, firewalls, and other networking equipment.
• Maintain the backbone of Necsa group IT infrastructure, contributing to the overall efficiency, reliability, and security of communication and data exchange within the organisation.
• Collaborate with other IT professionals, including system administrators, Governance & ISO team and application developers, to ensure seamless integration of VoIP systems with the broader IT infrastructure.
• Work with vendors for installation of LAN & WAN for skills development and ensuring that the service is provided internally before escalated to external service providers.

Network Monitoring

• Utilise network monitoring tools to oversee the performance of both the network and VoIP systems.
• Proactively address network issues and ensure optimal performance for voice services Systems Performance - Monitor and optimise application performance to ensure optimal end-user experience.
• Monitor network usage trends and plan for future capacity requirements.
• Upgrade or expand the network infrastructure to accommodate the organization's growing needs.
• Network Security - Ensure the security of critical business systems to prevent unauthorised access or data breaches.

Backup and Recovery Management

• Develop and implement disaster recovery plans for the for both network and VoIP communication.
• Establish and manage backup systems to ensure data integrity and availability in case of network failures or data loss.

Troubleshooting and Support

• Identify and resolve issues related to both VoIP and network connectivity.
• Provide technical support to end-users for voice communication and network-related concerns.
• Provide training to end-users on network-related best practices and security protocols.
• Conduct diagnostics and troubleshooting to address both hardware and software issues.
• Work with VoIP &network equipment vendors to stay updated on product features, updates, and best practices.

Requirements 

Education:

• National Diploma (NQF level 6) in IT

Experience: 

• 2 years of experience in the Telecoms systems administration environment
