Test Automation Engineer at Capitec Bank

This opportunity sits within our Credit Enablement Collections team, where you'll play a critical role in ensuring the quality of systems supporting both Business Banking and Retail Collections. What will you do?

• As a Test Automation Engineer, you'll take ownership of testing activities throughout the software development lifecycle, with a strong focus on automation and continuous improvement. 

You will:

• Analyse business and technical requirements to design effective test strategies and test cases.
• Build, execute and maintain scalable automated test suites.
• Develop automation scripts and continuously improve automation frameworks and processes.
• Validate system behaviour across APIs, databases and event-driven architectures.
• Design and maintain test stubs and mocks where required.
• Investigate defects, identify root causes and collaborate with development teams to drive resolution.
• Monitor testing progress and provide meaningful reporting on quality, risks and outcomes.
• Work closely with developers and stakeholders to ensure solutions meet business expectations.
• Provide technical guidance and contribute to upliftment of testing practices within the team.
• Perform manual testing when required and support end-to-end quality assurance activities. 

Minimum Experience

• 3-5 years' hands-on experience in Test Automation.
• Experience designing and maintaining automated testing solutions.
• Experience working with modern software delivery practices and Agile environments.
• Experience collaborating with developers, analysts and business stakeholders.
• Experience mentoring or supporting less experienced team members.

Technical Expertise Required
We're particularly interested in candidates with experience in: 

• Playwright
• JavaScript / Node.js
• SQL (PostgreSQL and/or SQL Server)
• API and integration testing
• Service stubs and mocks using Node.js
• Event-driven architectures and Kafka
• CI/CD and modern development practices
• Test automation frameworks and tooling
• Exposure to AWS, cloud technologies, distributed systems, performance testing or security testing will be highly advantageous. 

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field OR
• Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field with additional relevant experience and/or Test Automation certification. 

Education (Ideal or Preferred)

• Software Testing - Foundation Level through the International Software Testing Qualification Board (ISTQB)
