Thermal Power Generation Engineer at Zutari

About the role:

Zutari is looking for a Thermal Power Plant Engineer who will function as a technical consultant for feasibility studies in gas turbine/ gas engine projects/biomass/waste to energy plants and/or technical advisory on thermal power plants in Southern Africa.

Registration as a candidate engineer/technologist with ECSA with the view of obtaining a PrEng/PrTech registration within 1-2 years is required; however, existing professional registrations with ECSA is considered advantageous.

Up to 20% travel to clients, sites and manufacturers' premises is envisaged. The role will require foreign travel, specifically travel within Africa.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing and performing high-quality technical advisory works.
• Project Management and interfacing between engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil and control and instrumentation).
• Prepare functional designs, specifications, and tender documents for substation projects to internationally accepted standards for clients in Southern Africa and also internationally, under the supervision of a senior engineer.
• Preparation of reports and drawings to stakeholder requirements, under the supervision of a senior engineer.
• Review detailed designs of substations and substation technologies submitted by contractors.
• Perform technical due diligence on existing thermal power plant.
• Calculate gas consumption of specific technologies as well as heat and mass balances.
• Attend meetings with project stakeholders and prepare minutes.
• Site audits and inputs to Project Scoping.
• Provide project engineering support during the execution phase of thermal generation projects including responding to technical queries, factory inspections and testing of materials and monitoring progress the of construction on site.
• Preparation of proposals for consultancy services.

Qualifications

• BSc Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical) Degree or BTech Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical).
• 3+ years’ experience in Thermal Power Projects.
• Knowledge and field expertise regarding power plant modelling, design, construction supervision and commissioning is advantageous.
• Knowledge and interest in the South African gas industry down, mid and up stream.
• ECSA registration as a Candidate is required; however preference is given to candidates that are already Professional registered with ECSA.
