Trainee Buyer at Pepkor Speciality

Job Description    

• Legit, a division of Pepkor Trading, is seeking a highly motivated Casualwear Trainee Buyer to join our team. In this role, you will play a key role in supporting the development of product strategies, building assortments, analysing trade, and partnering with suppliers to deliver a compelling product offering aligned to the brand’s identity and value proposition.

Qualifications    

• A Grade 12 certificate or equivalent is an essential requirement. 
• A diploma or bachelor's degree in a related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience    

• Has a minimum of 1 years' experience in retail fashion buying or a related function.
• Possesses a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of garment construction.
• Strong understanding of global fashion trends and their commercial application.
• Exposure to supplier interaction and sourcing.
• Strong analytical ability.
• Effective communication and presentation skills.
• Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines under pressure.
• Is a team player with strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys the challenge of exceeding expectations.

Key Responsibilities    

• In this fast-paced role, you'll be responsible for supporting your team in applying brand-relevant trends to your department and categories, range building a collection that resonates with our target market.
• Contribute innovative ideas and newness into assortments while maintaining a strong commercial focus.
• Demonstrate strong attention to detail in product conceptualisation, ensuring alignment to brand, customer, and quality standards.
• Analyse weekly trade with clear recommendations and actions to optimise performance, identifying both risks and opportunities.
• Contribute meaningfully to post-seasonal reviews, demonstrating a clear understanding of successes, failures, and required actions.
• Work closely with the Planner and Buying team to build and manage balanced assortments across categories, price points, and product attributes.
• Continuously review and adapt the range to maximise sales and margin performance.
• Support and contribute to building a focused supplier strategy, ensuring the right supplier mix for the department.
• Build and maintain effective supplier relationships to ensure quality, cost efficiency, and on-time delivery.
• Ensure all products meet required quality, fit, and technical standards in collaboration with QA.
• Apply a sound understanding of fabric, fit, and garment construction throughout product development
• Monitor competitors and market trends through regular store visits and research, providing structured insights and recommendations.
• Take ownership of critical path execution, ensuring all deadlines and process requirements are consistently met.
• Build strong cross-functional relationships with Planning, QA, and key stakeholders to support delivery of departmental objectives.
• Communicate ideas and recommendations clearly and confidently, using data to support decision-making.
• Demonstrate energy, pace, accountability, and a proactive approach to delivering results.
