Trainee Operations Manager (Hay Band - O) at Rand Water

Summary

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for training in managing the abstraction of raw water, purification and pumping of potable water including disposal of sludge by effective control over the operating staff & associated equipment to ensure daily potable water demands & quality as laid down by the CE are complied with. To train in the managing the maintenance of the plant equipment and machines.

Minimum Requirements
 

• Grade 12 combined with Engineering Degree or Higher National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• A Government Certificate of Competency will serve as an added advantage.
• Five years Plant experience in a unionised environment.
• Computer literacy.
• Code 08 drivers licence.

Primary Duties

The critical functions will include:

1. Ensure plant availability by maintaining Plant equipment/machines to meet official daily orders.
2. Ensure raw water abstraction, purification of the required quantity of water and compliance to water quality in accordance to Rand water standards.
3. Ensure that daily/monthly orders are met as required by GMO/CE,
4. Ensure compliance for water quality in terms of ph and turbidity’s as per standard required.
5. Ensure that the sludge disposal programme is followed and supervised.
6. Ensure 100% supply of quality potable water to customers.
7. Management of staff by ensuring an overall conducive climate by good labour relations between employees in all departments, recruiting of quality personnel and training of staff in line with their respective jobs.
8. Asset management by ensuring efficient transport utilization.
9. Legal and Procedural compliance with regards to Safety Management.
10. Financial Management for the department including budgeting, cost allocation and variance reporting.
