Supervising and assisting in daily warehousing and shipping functions
Supervising receipt of all shipments, processes receiving, discrepancy, and damage reports as needed
Measuring and reporting the effectiveness of the department activities
Evaluating complaints received on shipments of equipment and supplies and take appropriate action
Developing and maintaining departmental work instructions for all tasks
Establishing and amending work procedures to meet warehouse demands as dictated by picking schedules and work flow
Adhering to Company policies and procedures and enforcing safety regulations
Recommending measures to improve quality of service, increasing efficiency of department and work crew and equipment performance
Continuously improving warehouse operations through the use of lean enterprise practices
Conferring with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments and serving internal customers
Maintaining inventory by conducting weekly cycle count , reconciling variances and inputting data
Assigning staff to areas best suitable to obtain maximum productivity
Keeping plant and machinery operational by troubleshooting breakdowns and continuous preventative maintenance
Managing the maintenance of the building
Managing and controls the warehouse picking, relative to the picking slips to ensure compliance to the required service levels
Interacting with customers on a day to day basis and addresses customer complaints
Participating in the development and implementation of security control procedures for warehouse operations
Co-ordinating and managing stock takes
Co-ordinating the surveillance and investigation of stock shortages, deviations from specifications, damages to delivered stock and resolves discrepancies by following up with vendors and freight companies and submitting appropriate reports
REQUIREMENTS:
Matric (Grade 12) minimum
Computer Literate (MS Office)
4-5 years’ working experience in a fast moving goods warehouse floor
Studying towards a Diploma in Logistics
Minimum 2 years’ working experience on Sage
Previous experience in managing 50+ staff
Strong HR/IR skills
Own transport essential
Possible night shift work might be required
Computerized and manual warehouse record-keeping methods
Basic principles of warehouse organization and management
Warehouse methods used in receiving, inspecting, storing, picking, distributing & delivering of goods
Basic principles of warehouse safety and security
Basic principles of training, supervision and personnel development
Occupational Health and Safety Procedures
Use technology in the management and maintenance of an effective receiving department
Plan and delegate work and expedite flow of goods
Analyze work requirements and establish performance standards
Analyze procedural problems and determine causes of errors or inefficiency
Maintain accurate records and prepare reports
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
Knowledge of general business computer software and aptitude to learn new software applications
Ability to meet physical requirements including: a variety of standing, sitting and walking throughout the day
