Our opportunity

The role of the Bryte CL Underwriter (Centre of Excellence Quoting) is to analyse and underwrite new business effectively within delegated authority limits to achieve agreed levels of underwriting performance by providing technical underwriting support and assistance.
To provide high quality service and solutions to brokers and customers to ensure business retention and profitable growth.
To provide effective qualitative underwriting and to demonstrate specialized product knowledge and to be a mentor to Junior Underwriting technicians.

Key Tasks & Accountabilities

• Perform new business quotations within agreed service level agreements.
• Perform screening of new business quote requests according to set guidelines.
• Achieve agreed new business conversion ratios.
• Perform reinsurance calculations and referrals thereafter.
• Achieve targeted underwriting profit by assistance and performance of underwriting skills by underwriting medium to high complexity risks.
• Growth of business
• Contribute to proposition development.
• Provide qualitative service levels to internal and external stake holders, treat customer fairly.
• Teamwork

Qualifications & Experience

• Grade 12
• Minimum of 3 years technical expertise in underwriting, preferable in commercial underwriting 
• FAIS compliant, 60 credits
• Must have RE
• Local languages, including Afrikaans an added advantage (to give the team a balance)
• Experience with TIA system crucial.

Knowledge

• Sound understanding and knowledge of South African Insurance/re-insurance market.
• Sound knowledge of how to optimise underwriting performance at a policy and portfolio level.
• Sound knowledge of statutory and legislative requirements
• Expert technical knowledge and understanding of underwriting principles.
