Underwriter Prive: New business at Santam Insurance

JOB DESCRIPTION

• The positions will have full accountability for the underwriting of all very large Commercial Property policies with exposures greater than R250m at every stage of the policy lifecycle i.e. from quote stage to amendments to renewal of these policies and will therefore require a certain level of discretion to be considered and applied. The key focus area will be for policies that require reinsurance.
• Ensure quotations are received, provide all necessary information required by brokers and. The incumbent will be expected to know these policies intimately and be able to discuss details directly with brokers, giving advice where required and suggesting solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Quotation of large Commercial Property risks
• Preparation of quotations and review of underwriting terms in line with Santam guidelines and mandates
• Engagement with brokers and internal stakeholders on complex risks
• Preparation of reinsurance calculations and exposure assessments in respect to quotes
• Support to Relationship Managers on new business and technical underwriting decisions

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Grade 12 (Matric Certificate) qualification
• Higher Certificate in Insurance or equivalent NQF 5 Short term Insurance qualification – 120 credits
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience working within commercial and/or corporate insurance
• At least 3 years’ experience in a sales or new business environment within a mid corporate or corporate underwriting function
• Working knowledge of Re-Insurance is a requirement
• Computer literate (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint – intermediated proficiency levels)
• Sound technical, product and wording knowledge of Commercial or Agri insurance. 
• Professional designation - Licentiateship (LIISA) - Advantageous
