Job Description

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

• Honor's Degree in Taxation or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in VAT compliance and advisory.
• Strong knowledge of VAT legislation and SARS requirements.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and training skills.
• This role ensures the preparation and review of all monthly reports on all tax aspects and is responsible for reviewing all income tax and VAT returns.

VAT

• Prepare and submit timely and accurate VAT returns, ensuring compliance with SARS requirements.
• Advise on VAT implications for business transactions and new projects.
• Prepare VAT apportionment calculations.
• Conduct regular VAT reconciliations and promptly resolve discrepancies.
• Proactively resolve SARS queries.
• Maintain proper documentation and records for VAT audits and inspections.
• Liaise with external auditors to efficiently resolve VAT queries.
• Provide training and support to internal teams on VAT-related issues.
• Perform systems and documentation VAT health checks across the organisation.
• Stay updated on changes in VAT legislation.
• Implement necessary adjustments based on legislative changes.
• Provide oversight to subsidiaries to ensure VAT compliance and VAT risk management within the OMI Group.
• Conduct internal audits across the subsidiaries.
• Attend to VAT queries from OML Group Tax.
• Assist junior staff in developing their technical and soft skills.

Tax

• Develop and/or deliver a plan for significant elements of the tax systems, with guidance from senior colleagues.

Data Collection and Analysis

• Conduct research using primary data sources, and select information needed for the analysis of key themes and trends.

Data Management

• Manage basic aspects of the data management system with guidance from senior colleagues. This includes being responsible for developing or operating basic elements of the data management systems to deliver prescribed outcomes.

Insights and Reporting

• Prepare and coordinate the completion of various data and analytics reports.

Document Preparation

• Edit document in line with organizational style guidelines and prepare information for publication.

Financial Policies, Guidelines and Protocols

• Develop and deliver financial guidelines and protocols to ensure the company complies with regulations and good financial practice.

Information and Business Advice

• Provide specialist advice on the interpretation and application of policies and procedures, resolving queries and issues and referring very complex or contentious issues to others.

Financial Management and Control

• Work within established systems to deliver prescribed outcomes for a designated area of financial control.

Operational Compliance

• Maintain and renew a deep knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, and ensure own work adheres to required standards. Or identify, within the team, patterns of noncompliance with the organization's policies and procedures and with relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, taking appropriate action to report and resolve these and escalating issues as appropriate.

Personal Capability Building

• Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an in-depth understanding of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
