Your Purpose...

• As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a hands-on role in building and evolving our web platforms, integrations and shared engineering foundations.
• This is a senior individual contributor role for an engineer with strong front-end depth and full-stack capability, with particular strength in TypeScript, Next.js, React and Storybook.

Your Duties and Responsibilities...

• Design, build and maintain modern web applications, services and shared platform foundations using TypeScript, Next.js, React and related technologies.
• Deliver high-quality, scalable and maintainable code across core user journeys, content experiences, integrations and shared platform capabilities.
• Contribute to the evolution of a multi-market web platform, with reusable engineering patterns that balance global consistency with local flexibility.
• Build reusable components, patterns and standards that support a coherent and scalable design system.
• Work across the stack where needed, with confidence contributing to APIs, integrations, orchestration layers and broader platform concerns.
• Collaborate closely with Product and Design to translate requirements, prototypes and user needs into robust technical solutions.
• Contribute to CI/CD, automated testing and release practices that enable frequent, safe and reliable delivery.

Our Minimum Requirements...

• Solid experience building modern web applications in production environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript, Next.js, React and Storybook.
• Demonstrable understanding of scalable, maintainable web architecture and component-driven development.
• Confidence working across APIs, integrations and shared platform or middle-tier services where needed.
• A strong commitment to automated testing, engineering quality and safe release practices.
• Experience contributing to CI/CD and modern software delivery practices.
• Good understanding of web performance, accessibility and SEO fundamentals.
• Experience working closely with Product and Design in cross-functional teams.
• Sound technical judgement and a pragmatic approach to balancing quality, pace and long-term maintainability.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience with headless CMS platforms, design systems, and multi-market digital platforms is desirable.
• Relevant degree or equivalent practical experience in software engineering, computer science or a related field.
• Able to work in line with Virgin Active’s agreed hybrid working patterns and ways of working (currently three days a week on-site).
