Yard Shunter Driver at Phakisa Group

Duties and Responsibilities

• Move trailers between loading bays, parking areas, workshops, and storage locations.
• Position trailers accurately at loading and offloading docks.
• Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the shunter vehicle.
• Report vehicle defects, damages, and maintenance requirements promptly.
• Ensure all trailer movements comply with company procedures and safety regulations.
• Communicate effectively with warehouse staff, transport planners, and loading personnel.
• Maintain accurate records of trailer movements and inspections.
• Ensure trailers are securely parked and wheel chocks are used where required.
• Perform coupling and uncoupling of trailers safely and correctly.
• Monitor trailer availability and assist with yard planning.
• Maintain housekeeping standards within the yard.
• Adhere to site traffic rules, speed limits, and health and safety requirements.
• Assist with loading and offloading activities when required.
• Support stock and equipment movement within the yard.
• Respond promptly to operational requests to minimize delays.
• Report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and legal regulations.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric) preferred.
• Valid Code 10 or Code 14 Driver's Licence (as required by the employer).
• Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
• Minimum 5 years' experience as a Yard Shunter Driver or Heavy Vehicle Driver.
• Experience working in a logistics, warehousing, manufacturing, mining, or distribution environment.
• Good understanding of trailer coupling and uncoupling procedures.
• Knowledge of transport and road safety legislation.
• Ability to work night shift 18H00 - 06H00, weekends, and overtime when required.
