    Instrument Mechanician

    Description

    • We’re on the lookout for an experienced Instrument Mechanician to provide instrumentation services with specific responsibility for fault finding, identifying repair and replacement needs, installing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading instrumentation systems and equipment; and ensuring that tools and materials are available and maintained to ensure long-term plant availability, reliability, and equipment effectiveness.

    As an Instrument Mechanician, you will be responsible for:

    • Maintain plant instrumentation in good working condition by completing scheduled maintenance as per SAP works order
    • Perform all required calibrations according to the standard work instructions and fill in the calibration sheets
    • Maintain a good knowledge of field instruments, instrumentation drawings, plant layout, plant process, and availability of procedures to allow for quick and accurate fault finding
    • Adhere to conditions of employment by performing standby, overtime, and shift work when required
    • Complete instrument installation and modification required according to the set standards
    • Update and maintain SAP Notifications of work orders by capturing failure codes and repair codes on the notification and completing the order once work is completed
    • Complete plant inspections in his or her area reports and rectify faults found
    • Assist the Instrument Superintendent in the skills development of apprentices and trainees

    What are we looking for?

    • Grade 12 with an N3 Engineering 
    • Recognised Trade Test Certificate as an Instrument Mechanician
    • 2 years post apprenticeship experience in a heavy industry environment will be advantageous

    HW Checker - Woodyard

    Description

    • We’re on the lookout for an HW Checker – Woodyard to effectively ensure the smooth running of the Chipper, addressing all non-conformances, breakdowns, problem solving from the log receiving deck  conveyor to the Hard Wood chip pile.

    As an HW Checker – Woodyard you will be responsible for:

    Plant Operation

    • Assist with plant start-ups and shutdowns to ensure production meets required rate and quality specifications.
    • Monitor clarifier tanks, Disk Scalper dump chutes, chippers, conveyors, and auxiliary equipment to maintain smooth operations.
    • Take chip samples as per BOP, conduct routine inspections, remove blockages, and report or address plant defects.
    • Identify abnormal or emergency plant conditions and take corrective action according to standard procedures.

    Communication

    • Communicate abnormal conditions and breakdowns to the Shift Superintendent and liaise with Maintenance teams.
    • Maintain regular communication with the HW Operator to support efficient plant performance.

    SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality)

    • Comply with SHEQ standards, achieve BBS targets, report unsafe conditions, and maintain 5S housekeeping practices.
    • Minimize environmental impact, including eliminating chips and bark from storm water drain systems.

    Resource Utilisation & Administration

    • Coach and train new employees, support self-development, and act in a higher position when licensed.
    • Complete SAP notifications, logbooks, check sheets, work permits, and record plant deviations accurately.

    Administration

    • Notifications (SAP – PM Operator)
    • Complete log book / check sheet daily
    • Ensure work permit book completed when necessary
    • Record all relevant plant deviations and notifications

    What are we looking for?

    • Matric with Mathematics and Science.
    • N3 Pulp and Paper qualification will be advantageous.
    • Experience in a production environment will be advantageous.

    Planning Superintendent

    Description

    We Are Hiring: Planning Superintendent

    • The Planning Superintendent is responsible for establishing and sustaining a robust maintenance planning, shutdown planning, failure analysis, and maintenance performance reporting infrastructure at Ngodwana Mill, supporting the mill’s journey toward becoming a World Class Business.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Shutdown Planning & Execution: Coordinate and maintain the mill shutdown schedule, ensuring effective forward planning and strict compliance with the Shutdown Business Process by managing planners and coaching engineers.
    • Work Management & Planning: Establish and sustain effective weekly and daily planning processes to ensure optimal control of work in progress.
    • Preventative Maintenance Management: Maintain and continuously improve preventative maintenance plans in SAP R/3 through regular audits and schedule optimisation.
    • Failure Analysis & Reliability Improvement: Implement and manage structured failure analysis frameworks, including documentation, flowcharts, and supporting tools.
    • Corrective Maintenance & Quality Control: Develop and manage repetitive task lists, Quality Control Procedures (QCPs), Bills of Materials (BOMs), and SAP R/3 master data to improve job quality and spares availability.
    • Performance Measurement & Reporting: Provide accurate weekly maintenance and engineering performance reports to Engineering, Maintenance, and Planning & Development management.
    • Training & Systems Coaching: Act as an SAP PM coach by training and advising users on best-practice system usage, including rotable control and the rotable repair cycle, and auditing compliance.
    • People Development & MDT Support: Build, develop, and maintain competent, motivated teams while providing effective support to multidisciplinary teams (MDTs).

    ​​​​​​​Essential Qualifications

    • Diploma (NQF Level 6)
    • Recognised Trade Certificate (Manpower/SETA accredited)

    ​​​​​​​Minimum Experience & Requirements

    • 5–8 years operational experience
    • Minimum of 3 years planning experience
    • Proficiency in MS Project
    • Strong SAP knowledge (PM, PS, and MM modules)
    • Valid driver’s licence
    • Pulp and Paper industry experience will be an advantage

    Electrician

    Description

    Join Our Team – Electrician

    • We are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrician to join our team and contribute to the availability, reliability, and optimal performance of plant equipment. This role is critical in ensuring safe, efficient, and uninterrupted production through effective maintenance, fault-finding, and installation of electrical systems.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Install, test, commission, maintain, and modify electrical equipment, including PLCs, drives, and control systems.
    • Perform maintenance and remedial work based on SAP notifications, work orders, and maintenance schedules.
    • Conduct fault finding and breakdown repairs to minimize production downtime.
    • Carry out routine inspections and recommend corrective and preventative maintenance actions.
    • Test AC and DC motors, including windings, insulation resistance.
    • Identify and report equipment defects, manage spare parts, and maintain accurate records via SAP.
    • Adhere to SHEQ standards, report unsafe acts, and assist in incident investigations.
    • Maintain high housekeeping standards and comply with all work permit and safety procedures.

    Process Operator #2 Uptakes

    Description

    • We’re on the lookout for an Process Operator #2 Uptakes to manage the production of pulp reels through the #2 Uptake machine safely and efficiently.  

    As an Process Operator #2 Uptakes you will be responsible for:

    • Responsible for pre-start inspections across stock supply, mould section, press section, reeler, and conveyor systems.
    • Start-up and controlled stopping of the 2 Uptake machine according to set procedures.
    • Monitor and control operating parameters on the machine and stock supply.
    • Log events, control changes, downtime reports, and production data electronically.
    • Perform continuous troubleshooting and corrective actions, reporting issues in SAP and to the Shift Supervisor.
    • Conduct detailed shift handovers to ensure seamless operational continuity.
    • Communicate effectively with other sections where operational interaction occurs.
    • Replace wear materials such as suction mould wire in accordance with operating standards.
    • Maintain housekeeping and cleanliness in the area to 5S standards.
    • Support safe work procedures and best operating practices, including issuing maintenance work permits.
    • Ensure duties of the Reeler Assistant are completed to required operational standards.
    • Manage the reeler area and ensure reels produced meet quality and condition requirements.

    What are we looking for?

    • Matric with Mathematics and Physical Science, or N3 in Pulp and Paper, or N3 in Engineering Studies.
    • 1 year machine operating experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
