    BC Deputy Head - Academics

    Description:

    The Boys’ College seeks to employ a dynamic, passionate, and professional person to lead the Boys’ College academic programme as it continues to grow as an excellent, modern and progressive institution, in the position of Deputy Head – Academics. The successful incumbent will report directly to the Head of School: Boys’ College. Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced individuals who believe they have the required skills and competencies to take on this senior leadership position from January 2024.

    We are looking for an Instructional Leader and Change Agent who is passionate about the education of boys, and who will inspire our staff and students, develop fellow academic leaders, and who is excited about their own professional growth and enjoys exposure to new ideas. This leader will be required to be calm, nurturing and firm as they manage the complexities of a dynamic environment that strives to develop “great young men”, ready to serve, lead, contribute and make a difference in our world and in the lives of others. This role involves the creation of programmes, activities and support that fosters a community of belonging and a place of collaboration where agency and self-efficacy flourish. The successful candidate will need to work effectively with the school’s management and Heads of various departments, to improve the delivery, measurable outcomes and the overall academic and student welfare environment in the Boys’ College.

    Requirements:
    The requirements for this position are:

    • Relevant tertiary educational qualification preferably at a post graduate level, and an unblemished career history
    • Experience in a senior leadership position within an independent school would be a distinct advantage 
    • Ability to manage and lead a diverse, highly talented and dynamic staff team
    • A solid and progressive understanding of, and experience in, the opportunities and challenges of leading and managing a South African school in the 21st century in the context of national transformation
    • Acknowledged academic standing and experience and the ability to take dynamic and effective leadership decisions
    • Proven strategic visionary acumen and drive, coupled with a strong work ethic, integrity, and vision
    • Solid knowledge and experience of corporate governance principles and performance management strategies
    • Substantive understanding of the educational environment and current pressures relating to family and socio-economic aspects
    • A sound and progressive understanding of, and interest in, international trends in boys’ education and 21st century learning as well as in the growing world of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Integration in learning
    • The ability to develop, foster and sustain appropriate partnerships and positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders and promote synergies in the educational experiences of the schools of St Stithians College and in the broader schooling environment
    • Excellent people and communication skills as well as the ability to role model the attributes of a servant leader
    • A high level of organisational, managerial, administrative and communication skills

    Director of Psychology & Welbeing Centre

    Description:

    • The Girl’s College invites applications for the following position which will be available from 1 January 2024.
    • This is a senior management position. Applications are invited from suitably qualified, registered and experienced individuals who believe they have the required skills and competencies to take on this role.

    Requirements:
    Overview of the position:

    • Lead strategy, manage operations, and support the Wellbeing Centre team
    • Conduct containment, counselling, and therapeutic services for adolescent girls
    • Manage all administrat ive processes in line with the above, according to HPCSA regulations and requirements
    • Design and conduct psycho-educational interventions for students, parents, and staff
    • Provide consulting services and support to school staff
    • Promote and practise from a Positive Psychology paradigm and the PERMA-V model of wellbeing adopted by the College
    • Liaise with external service providers and maintain a collaborative professional network
    • Manage a team of staff

    Key requirements:

    • Suitable professional qualifications and experience; teaching experience and/or experience in schools is essential
    • Professional Registration as a Psychologist with the HPCSA, which is current and CPD compliant
    • High levels of professionalism, including the ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality and boundaries in all matters relating to the role
    • High levels of ethical reasoning and ability to constructively apply the HPCSA Ethical Code of Conduct for Psychologists
    • Commitment to working with adolescents and a deep understanding of issues affecting teenage girls and their families
    • Excellent knowledge and understanding of educational and whole school procedures, organisation, structures and systems
    • Excellent knowledge of Developmental Psychology, psychopathology, socio-emotional difficulties, and barriers to learning
    • Ability and commitment to building positive relationships with all stakeholders and a strong team orientation, with high interpersonal skills and insight
    • Ability to prioritise, multi-task, be flexible, and work under pressure within a dynamic school environment
    • Growth mindset and commitment to continuous personal and professional development
    • Excellent adminsitration, communication, and presentation skills (verbal and written)           
    • Patience, diplomacy, empathy and flexibility when dealing with a range of situations and people
    • Strong administrative skills; Computer literacy with a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office
    • Any staff member working within a school is required to have a sexual offender’s clearance certificate
    • A willingness to work within the values, Christian ethos and mission of the College and to participate in the broader life of the school

    Requirements:
    The ideal candidate should have:

    • Proven performance of coaching and mentoring student athletes; including experience in the pastoral space.
    • Relevant sport related qualifications (FISA Level 1/2 and First Aid desirable).

    • Conflict management skills (written and verbal).
