    Programme Manager: SAFM (12134)

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Develop and implement a Programming strategy in line with overall Radio strategy and objectives/goals.
    • Conduct continuous reviews of on-air products (formats), markets and revenue opportunities, in order to meet strategic objectives and ensure that the station maintains its competitive edge.
    • Liaise with various internal stakeholders (i.e. Sales and Marketing, Finance, Market Intelligence, sport, Education, etc.) and external parties, to ensure the station’s mandate and programming objectives are met.
    • Develop and implement a multi-pronged talent management plan in line with audience needs and future proofing of the station.
    • Develop a multi-platform media strategy to grow audience base.
    • Monitor and manage the output of Programming plans for the station, keeping within allocated budget.
    • Commission research and implement insights to ensure high quality programming and deliver to audience needs.
    •  Monitor and review programmes to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with station positioning.
    • Conduct talent scouting exercises and maintain a talent bank for station voices and creatives.
    • Explore opportunities for Co-productions and product placement, for cost containment and revenue generation.
    • Interact with radio sales to ensure that product campaigns run smoothly and are on time for prodcast.
    • Utilize marketing resources and digital platforms to create talent and product awareness campaigns.
    • Work with digital specialists to build and grow online communities around the station’s on-air products.
    • Ensure adhere to licence conditions, and relevant legislation in broadcasting i.e. ICASA quotas, Broadcast Act, etc.
    • Monitor and report on operational risks and non-compliance matters.
    • Develop and implement internal control measures to ensure good governance within the programming value chain.
    • Manage risks to protect organisational integrity, create value, prevent financial losses and ensure compliance with applicable policies.
    • Implement recommendations of internal audits and address identified gaps.
    • Compile reports for various internal and external structures.
    • Engage constantly with Internal and External business partners to achieve business objectives.
    • Respond timorously to complaints.
    • Liaise with Radio Sales and Adventure on programme sponsorships, trade exchanges and product placement in programmes to realize revenue.
    • Liaise with internal and external content providers to ensure new innovations, cutting edge content, and alignment to organizational and national goals.
    • Effective implementation of Performance Management System in accordance with organizational policy.
    • Manage adequate staffing for workload, succession planning and effective leadership.
    • Effective briefing and communication with departmental staff and line management.
    • Complete Personal Development Plans (PDP) for all staff members.
    • Provide individual coaching, counseling and mentoring of staff to assess and address developmental needs.
    • Transfer of skills in line with succession planning.
    • Manage available staff and identify potential to ensure fair and balanced distribution of work.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    •  National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Communication/Media Studies/Business Management or relevant qualification (NQF level 6)
    • 6 years’ experience in Radio broadcasting of which 3 years should be at supervisory level.
    • Develops well defined communication strategy for the business unit.
    • Markets and promotes the organization to external stakeholders.
    • Demonstrates logical problem-solving approach and provides rationale for proposed solutions.
    • Develops and incorporates best practice people management processes, approaches and tools across finance departments.
    • Creates processes to ensure accountability for people management and development.
    • Develops comprehensive, integrated strategies and approaches to managing human resources and adaptive leadership style.
    • Advanced knowledge and understanding of Radio production processes and broadcast systems.
    • Excellent understanding of the public mandate and SABC editorial prescripts.
    • Understanding of applicable legislative frameworks and regulations, ICASA, BCCSA Code, SABC Editorial Policies.

    National Sales Manager -Public Sector (12511)

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS - Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Ensure maximum income is realised from the allocated portfolio of agencies and clients nationally
    • Maintain or increase revenue market share for Radio and/or VE and/or Digital.
    • Ensure all sales deals, commitments and any other contractual agreements with clients / third parties are managed and reported on monthly, quarterly and annually
    • Manage and take full accountability for the performance of the sales portfolio and its resources. 
    • Manage, motivate, and develop the sales and sales support teams who work directly / collaboratively under your leadership.
    • Implement sales strategies both on strategic and tactical levels to ensure the target set are achieved and exceeded. 
    • Manage the Segment Unit operating budget in such a manner as to encourage cost containment.
    • Ensure contribution to target setting, budget preparation and sales plans are timeously implemented and measured at regular intervals. 
    • Develop and monitor operational sales strategies in conjunction with the Head of Sales and with the input of the sales team.
    • Monitor and analyse competitor business to identify and exploit new business opportunities and increase market share   Interpret and utilize research results in order to optimise revenue (e.g. market trends, lost/dropped business by agency/ client, etc.)
    • Create increased revenue opportunities and positive commercial relationships within in agencies and clients direct with the aim to build partnerships for mutual gain.  
    • Drive an integrated sales behaviour with across Sales and sales support to ensure best practice and performance.
    • Grow and maintain excellent relationships with the SABC Platforms and other stakeholders.
    • Provide infield and formal training and succession planning for all direct reports and specified others.
    • Attend Industry related functions and ensure visibility in market weekly.  
    • Maintain a positive image and relationships for SABC Sales in the marketplace.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB

    • A relevant degree or diploma (NQF6/7), (Sales/ Communication/ Marketing/Business management/ administration or relevant qualification
    • A minimum of 8 years of sales experience, and, /sales management experience, (media sales preferable) of which 4 should be on Junior management Level

    Marketing & Business Development Assistant: Channel Africa (12551)

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Planning and organizing local & international projects & events for the station in a cost effective way
    • Participate in negotiating and developments of long term trade exchanges and partnerships with the station’s potential clients

    Requirements:

    Senior Scheduling Analyst (12081)

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    BUSINESS OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY  

    • Analyse preliminary schedules and alert scheduling managers if quotas are not met to ensure a high level of awareness on regulatory responsibilities.
    • Analyse reconciled broadcast schedules and provide feedback to channels on performance against licence conditions and regulations for inclusion in monthly reports.
    • Conduct data analysis and relevant scenario planning to ensure compliance by TV and Radio.
    • Calculate impact of proposed schedule changes on mandate compliance; sift data, notice trends and variances.
    • Extract and validate data from Integrated Broadcast Management System (IBMS) or Television Broadcast Management system (TVBMS) for analysis of Television schedules.
    • Plan for the implementation when new licence conditions and regulations prevail.
    • Ensure that data capturing is correct and identify data conflicts.
    • Promote the ethos of the Public Broadcaster in respect of its mandate.
    • Monitor and Evaluate TV and Radio services to ensure compliance.
    • Provide monthly reports and give regular feedback.

    GOVERNANCE, RISK AND COMPLIANCE

    • Adhere to South Africa’s Constitution, all broadcasting and other legislation, Icasa regulations, the BCCSA Codes of Conduct, Press Council Code, SABC editorial policies and news and current affairs style guide.
    • Monitor implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
    • Monitor and report on the internal risk.

    STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT    

    • Contribute towards Liaison with ICASA on the reporting about compliance.
    • Liaise with Internal Stakeholders with regards to compliance (Radio, TV and BIT)
    • Represent the department in meetings with channels.
    • Represent the department in all discussions related to the introduction of new software systems in the SABC (TVBMS, SAP, etc.).

    LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISION  

    • Coach, mentor and develop the team.
    • Manage the employee relations to ensure conducive and productive working environment.
    • Ensure the implementation of organisational development initiatives i.e. Wellness, Employment Equity, Career Progression, Talent Management, and Human Capital Planning etc.

     INHERENT/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

     QUALIFICATIONS

    • National Diploma / Degree in Human Sciences majoring in Statistics or equivalent qualifications. (NQF6/7)

     EXPERIENCE

    • 5 years’ experience in data analysis and policy regulatory environment.
