    Gallery Coordinator

    Description

    The incumbent would be required to work as an integral part of the Technical Operations Unit by filling in on various roles as required. The core skills required for this role are Vision Mixing, Graphics Operator, Server Operator, Vision Control, Autocue, Production Assistant, Floor Manager and Studio Cameras.

    Budget Compliance

    • Comply with work rules, standards and methods. Take care to minimise waste. 

    Floor Manager

    • Meet and greet studio guests and ensure that they are safe on the studio floor and that they are miced up.
    • Ensuring that all equipment on the floor is in working condition, report all faults immediately to engineers.
    • Manage the execution of the show on the floor as per director’s instructions.

    Graphics

    • Check that the Viz machine and associated software is in good working order.
    • Ensuring that the graphics rundown is correct and preview all graphics before triggering to air.
    • Operate graphics playout systems during live and pre-recorded productions.

    Autocue

    • Gather and preview all scripts and ensure that all scripts are cleaned before the start of each production.
    • Managing all script changes and ensure that the Anchors have the correct script at all times.
    • Operate the autocue machine, monitoring the talent reading speed ensuring that the script is in sync with the reading.

    Vision Control

    • Ensuring that the equipment (Cameras, CCU’S, Studio lights, Robotics) is switched on and in good working order.
    • Balance cameras to get the exact colour output and ensure that all studio cameras match.
    • Performing camera backfocus where required to ensure that the focal point is accurate.
    • Framing camera shots according to the Technical Directors requirements, perform robotic on-air camera movements as required.

    Server

    • Setting up and operating different types of video playback devices i.e server, tapes, cinedeck.
    • Taking direction from technical director and producer on which content to playback.
    • Following and executing playback instructions as per running order.
    • Creating and maintaining appropriate logs and labels for removable media i.e tapes, HDD’s.

    Vision Mixing

    • Check the vision mixing desk that everything is working and all relevant elements are loaded for production, if any irregularity is found report to engineering.
    • View different types of image from a variety of sources, i.e pictures from several cameras, digital video effects, graphics and outside broadcast materials.
    • Under instructions from the director, selecting the required images and combining them, ensuring a smooth transition between shots – this involves ‘cutting’, ‘mixing’ and ‘wiping’.
    • Setup DVE effects and create new show styles on request.
    • Ability to adapt the vision mixing desk settings on the fly on request from the Technical Director.

    Support and Coordination

    • Stand in for Technical Director when required and ensure with the director a smooth technical and visually production.
    • Manage the crew during the production to ensure everyone is fully aware of what is required from them.
    • Double check elements before switching on air to ensure that they correct and are according to the show requirements.
    • Help train and mentor other members of the Technical Operations team.
    • Compile a detailed shift reports detailing all on air errors and equipment faults.
    • Compile a shift attendance register detailing arrival times of crew members as well as absenteeism.

    Requirements

    Qualifications

    • National Senior Certificate -   Essential
    • Higher Certificate in Broadcast - Essential
    • National Diploma in Broadcast - Recommended

    Experience

    • 5 years in Broadcast -   Essential
    • Driver's License - Recommended

    On-Air Graphics Operator

    Description

    The incumbent would be responsible for operating and flighting created graphics in on-air or live production and pre-recorded environments. Ensuring that all graphic elements are free from spelling errors. 

    Preparation 

    • Perform equipment test at the beginning of day/shift. (Restart or connect all services required).
    • Ensure the correct Rundown is loaded and tests of all rundown elements are done prior to any bulletin going on air or being recorded.
    • Ensuring that the correct show graphics & elements are loaded for each show.
    • Once all tests are done check for spelling errors on graphics, fullscreens, CGs and lower third straps.
    • Running on air tests when required.
    • Ensure all graphics are in the correct format prior to going on air.
    • Liaise closely with the Technical Director and Vision Mixer on show requirements to activate Backgrounds, splitscreens and keys such as clock and channel logo.
    • Liaise with editorial team when there are changes to be made to graphics before taking to air.
    • Create on screen graphics and sequences on outside broadcast.
    • Input data provided in the necessary templates created for every production. (Charts/Graphs and any graphical requirement).

    Coordination

    • Completing graphics requests using provided templates on the Graphics Computers, as per the required standards.
    • Operating graphics play-out computers during live and pre-recorded programs.
    • Building animations using template driven computer graphics.
    • Edit graphics at the request of the editorial team.
    • Ensure the graphics correspond with the script provided.
    • Typing in all titles, supers and credits.
