    Blaster

    • As a Blaster, you will be responsible to execute drill and blast activities to facilitate the extraction of coal from the earth. Ensure that blasting operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established procedures and regulations.

    Key Responsibilities:
    Blasting Operations:

    • Perform drilling and blasting activities according to approved blast plans and safety protocols
    • Operate drilling equipment to create blast holes of specified dimensions and angles
    • Load explosives into blast holes using proper charging techniques and equipment
    • Ensure the proper placement and stemming of explosives to achieve desired fragmentation and minimize flyrock

    Safety Compliance:

    • Adhere to all safety regulations, procedures, and best practices to mitigate risks associated with blasting operations
    • Conduct pre-blast safety inspections and risk assessments to identify and address potential hazards
    • Implement measures to control blast vibrations, air overpressure, and flyrock to protect personnel, equipment, and nearby structures
    • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety devices as required to maintain a safe working environment

    Equipment Maintenance:

    • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on drilling and blasting equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability
    • Report any equipment malfunctions or defects to the maintenance team for timely repairs
    • Maintain an inventory of explosives, detonators, and other blasting consumables and request replenishment as needed

    Communication and Coordination:

    • Collaborate with the Manager and other team members to coordinate blasting activities with mine production schedules
    • Communicate effectively with drillers, supervisors, and support staff to ensure smooth and efficient operations
    • Provide clear instructions to blasting assistants and helpers to facilitate safe and productive work practices

    Environmental Stewardship:

    • Implement measures to minimize environmental impact, such as dust suppression, erosion control, and water management
    • Comply with environmental regulations and company policies related to blasting operations
    • Participate in environmental monitoring activities and report any deviations or incidents to the appropriate authorities

    Minimum requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Certification as a Blaster (Opencast)
    • 3 to 5 years’ experience in drilling and blasting operations in Coal Mining
    • Knowledge of blasting techniques, explosives safety, and regulatory requirements
    • Ability to operate drilling equipment and blasting accessories safely and effectively
    • Physical stamina and strength to perform manual tasks in a challenging work environment

    A valid drivers licence and own reliable vehicle

    Diesel Supervisor (Mining)

    Purpose of the role:

    • We are seeking an experienced Diesel Supervisor that will be responsible for the receiving and dispensing of large volumes of diesel.

    Responsibilities:
    Diesel Handling and Storage:

    • Oversee the entire diesel storage, handling, and stock management
    • Receive diesel supply trucks and ensure proper offloading into tanks
    • Take meter readings before and after offloading to calculate diesel received
    • Inspect seals on diesel tanks to ensure integrity
    • Collect samples to verify diesel quality and adhere to safety procedures

    Health and Safety:

    • Ensure safety protocols are followed
    • Conduct daily toolbox talks
    • Report safety incidents promptly
    • Maintain safety files and records

    Receiving Diesel:

    • Place orders based on stock levels and delivery times
    • Verify incoming trucks against contracts or purchase orders
    • Coordinate with security for truck entry
    • Follow checklists and procedures for diesel offloading

    Data Management:

    • Reconcile daily diesel stock, received, and dispensed
    • Prepare daily and monthly reports
    • Manage all diesel-related data

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Matric
    • 3 to 5 years experience in similar role preferably within a mining environment
    • MS Excel reporting

    Material Handling Superintendent

    • To lead and coordinate all material handling activities across the mining operation, ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of coal, overburden, ROM coal, discard, and related materials. The incumbent is responsible for achieving production targets while maintaining compliance with all safety, environmental, and statutory requirements.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Operational Management

    • Plan, coordinate, and supervise all material handling activities, including loading, hauling, stockpiling, blending, and coal dispatch operations.
    • Ensure efficient and safe operations by monitoring daily production against mining plans and KPIs, implementing corrective actions, and driving continuous improvement.
    • Optimise equipment utilisation, productivity, and cost per tonne moved through effective production planning and scheduling.
    • Coordinate activities between mining, processing, logistics, maintenance, and contractors to ensure seamless operations and consistent coal supply to the wash plant and customers.
    • Ensure coal quality compliance through effective stockpile management and adherence to production requirements.

    Equipment Management

    • Manage the performance, availability, and productivity of heavy earthmoving equipment, including excavators, loaders, dump trucks, dozers, graders, water carts, and support equipment.
    • Work closely with maintenance teams to minimise downtime, maximise equipment utilisation, and monitor fuel consumption and fleet performance.

    Safety, Health, Environment & Quality

    • Promote and maintain a zero-harm safety culture by ensuring compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act, company standards, and environmental regulations.
    • Lead safety meetings, inspections, incident investigations, risk assessments, and environmental management activities, including dust suppression, waste handling, stockpile management, and rehabilitation.
    • Drive continuous improvement in safety, environmental compliance, and operational performance.

    Leadership

    • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop supervisors, foremen, operators, and contractors to build high-performing teams focused on accountability, productivity, and continuous improvement.
    • Conduct performance management, employee development, and contractor performance reviews while fostering effective communication, sound decision-making, and a results-driven culture.

    Planning & Reporting

    • Develop daily, weekly, and monthly production plans aligned with operational and business requirements.
    • Prepare production reports, operational dashboards, and performance analyses to monitor trends, measure KPIs, support decision-making, and contribute to budgeting and cost-control initiatives. 

    Stakeholder Management

    • Liaise with mine planning, processing plants, logistics, maintenance, and contractor teams.
    • Coordinate coal supply to the wash plant and customers.
    • Ensure production schedules align with business requirements.

    Minimum Requirements
    Qualifications

    • Grade 12.
    • Diploma or Degree in Mining Engineering, Production Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
    • Mine Overseer Certificate of Competency is advantageous.
    • Blasting Certificate is advantageous.

    Experience

    • Minimum 8–10 years' mining experience.
    • At least 5 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
    • Experience in opencast coal mining.
    • Strong knowledge of material handling, coal stockyard management, hauling operations, and production optimisation.
    • Experience managing contractors and large mining fleets.

    Supervisor - Crushing & Screening Plant

    Purpose of the role:

    • To supervise and coordinate daily mobile crushing and screening operations within a coal mining environment, ensuring production targets are met safely, efficiently, and in compliance with mine standards and legal requirements.

    Key Responsibilities:
    Operational Supervision

    • Supervise daily operations of mobile crushers and mobile screening plants
    • Coordinate plant start-up, shutdown, changeovers, and material flow
    • Monitor production rates, throughput, coal quality, and screen sizing
    • Ensure correct feeding of ROM coal and removal of oversize or contamination
    • Identify and report plant inefficiencies and breakdowns

    Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)

    • Enforce strict compliance with MHSA, site safety rules, and procedures
    • Conduct pre-start inspections, toolbox talks, and risk assessments
    • Ensure safe operation of mobile equipment and traffic management
    • Stop unsafe work and report incidents, near misses, and hazards

    People Supervision

    • Supervise operators, general workers, and contractors on shift
    • Allocate tasks and monitor performance and discipline
    • Coach and mentor operators to improve skills and plant performance
    • Ensure attendance, shift handovers, and clear communication

    Maintenance & Reporting

    • Conduct daily plant inspections and basic fault finding
    • Report breakdowns and coordinate with maintenance teams
    • Complete production, downtime, and safety reports
    • Assist with planned maintenance and shutdown preparation

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Supervisory or mining-related certificate (Advantageous)
    • MHSA Legal Appointment (if applicable)

    Experience

    • 1–3 years’ experience in coal mining, quarrying, or aggregates
    • Hands-on experience with:
    • Mobile jaw/cone/impact crushers
    • Mobile screening plants
    • Exposure to ROM coal handling and coal processing operations
    • Acting supervisor or team leader experience (Advantageous)

    Skills and Competencies:

    • Strong understanding of mobile crushing and screening processes
    • Basic mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting ability
    • Leadership and team coordination skills
    • Strong safety awareness and risk management mindset
    • Ability to work shifts and under production pressure
