    Tailings Practice Lead: AIM

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide overall regional leadership for the AIM tailings practice, managing a team of tailings engineers and technologists based in our principal delivery office in Johannesburg.
    • Develop business and carry out marketing to existing and new Hatch clients in the mining and mineral refining sectors, preparation of expressions of interest and proposals;
    • In conjunction with other Hatch tailings practices globally, focus on the development of tailings disposal solutions for the African mining industry and develop skills that may be transferable to other minerals industries where Hatch operates; 
    • Lead scoping studies through to detailed engineering and operational support engagements;
    • Support existing clients with technical clarifications during the application of our proprietary Hatch Integrated Tailings Management (HITM) tool for monitoring data consolidation and GISTM compliance auditing.
    • Grow and develop a team of tailings and mine water management professionals in Johannesburg to support our existing projects, with a medium-term focus to develop external Clients.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Essential

    • Works well in a team with a strong track record in the execution of large civil earthworks projects in a remote area.
    • Bachelor of Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering with some Geotechnical/ Tailings working experience.
    • At least 10 years post graduate experience in industrial civil projects for the mining and metals industry in Africa.
    • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
    • High proficiency in MS Office suite of tools including: Excel, Word, Powerpoint and working knowledge of MS Project.
    • Ability to travel within Africa and the Middle East with a valid passport, permanent residency or approved visa to work in South Africa.

    Preferred

    • Pr. Eng designation will be considered favourably.
    • Leadership skills with proven ability to mentor younger engineers, scientists, designers and technicians.
    • Good working understanding of specialized geotechnical software and modeling tools relating to tailings design (i.e. InRoads, Muk3D, Civil3D, Geostudio and Plaxis)
    • Experience developing and reviewing engineering design for tailings facilities.
    • Qualified to take on an Engineer-of-Record (EoR) designation for our key mining clients.
    • Recognized expertise in a field or specialization within heavy civil or dam design.

    Senior Project Manager - Water Tunnel Infrastructure 1

    • The Senior Project Manager – Water Tunnel Infrastructure will serve as the Team Leader responsible for the overall delivery, coordination, and contract administration of the Polihali Transfer Tunnel project. The role ensures successful execution of design and construction supervision activities in line with project objectives, timelines, and quality standards. This position will be based in Lesotho (full-time) and will be a 12-month Fixed Term Contract with possibility of extention.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide overall leadership and management of the project team
    • Act as the primary liaison between the Client and project stakeholders
    • Oversee contract administration in accordance with FIDIC conditions
    • Supervise design and construction activities for underground works
    • Monitor project progress, budgets, risks, and compliance
    • Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards
    • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across engineering and construction functions
    • Report on project performance and key milestones

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Degree in Civil Engineering
    • Registered Professional Engineer (Pr Eng or equivalent)

    Experience:

    • Minimum 20 years’ post-graduate experience in civil engineering
    • Proven experience in major underground works (design and construction)
    • Minimum 10 years’ experience in water resource development projects
    • Including intakes, tunnels, and associated infrastructure
    • At least 5 years’ experience working with FIDIC contracts
    • Experience working in Africa or similar developing environments

    Technical scope:

    • Intake works and gate shaft at Polihali Reservoir
    • Approx. 38 km long, 5 m diameter water transfer tunnel
    • Ventilation and dewatering shafts
    • Outlet works and connection to Katse Reservoir
    • Access adits and supporting infrastructure
    • Construction facilities including roads, quarries, and accommodation

    • Contribute to technical packages or scopes for large tailings and mine waste management projects at pre-feasibility to detailed design levels of definition.
    • Work in multi-disciplinary teams to develop integrated tailings management solutions for our clients, including facility designs, tailings processing and slurry distribution studies.
    • Undertake fieldwork and construction technical support for tailings facilities.
    • Review and analyze technical data from clients using our proprietary Hatch Integrated Tailings Management (HITM) tool for monitoring data consolidation and GISTM compliance auditing.

    Site Electrical Engineer (12-Month Fixed Term Contract)

    • The Site Electrical Engineer supports the Engineering Manager and provides on‑site technical assistance during construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems. This role focuses on field engineering support, coordination with contractors, ensuring compliance with specifications, and resolving technical issues that arise on site. The Site Electrical Engineer ensures that the electrical scope is delivered safely, to the required quality, and in line with project schedules.

    Key Responsibilities

    Site Execution & Technical Support

    • Provide daily technical support to construction teams and contractors.
    • Review and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and layout documents for on‑site execution.
    • Conduct field inspections to verify that electrical installations meet design, quality, and safety standards.
    • Respond to and resolve site queries (RFIs), coordinating with the design office when needed.
    • Support testing, pre‑commissioning, and commissioning activities for electrical equipment and systems.
    • Assist with troubleshooting electrical issues encountered during installation and commissioning.

    Planning, Documentation & Controls

    • Maintain and update on‑site electrical scope of work documents as construction progresses.
    • Monitor contractor progress and provide feedback to ensure schedule adherence.
    • Support the development of electrical construction and commissioning plans.
    • Ensure that engineering deliverables such as drawings, datasheets, and specifications are correctly implemented on site.
    • Assist with the implementation of Engineering Work Packages (EWPs) related to field activities.

    Coordination & Communication

    • Participate in daily/weekly site coordination and progress meetings.
    • Liaise with other engineering disciplines, construction teams, procurement, and commissioning personnel to resolve interface issues.
    • Ensure effective communication between site personnel and the design office for technical clarifications.
    • Assist in conducting design and constructability reviews.

    Quality, Safety & Compliance

    • Ensure electrical installations comply with OHSA requirements, project safety rules, and electrical safety procedures.
    • Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety meetings related to electrical activities.
    • Ensure proper application of switching, isolation, and lock‑out/tag‑out procedures.
    • Conduct quality checks, audits, and inspections in line with the project’s Quality Assurance Plan.
    • Promote ethical and professional engineering practices on site.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Essential

    • BSc/B.Eng in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
    • Minimum of 5–10 years’ experience in electrical engineering on construction or site‑based projects.
    • Experience working on large multidisciplinary industrial/mining/infrastructure projects.
    • Strong understanding of construction, installation, and commissioning processes.
    • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and standards.
    • Good understanding of interdisciplinary interfaces and construction sequencing.
    • Knowledge of electrical equipment technologies used in large projects.
    • Strong communication, coordination, and site problem‑solving skills.
    • Understanding of procurement, contracting, and construction workflows.
    • Familiarity with HSEC standards and site safety requirements.

    Preferred

    • Experience mentoring junior engineers or technicians.
    • Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and contractors simultaneously.
    • Previous experience applying project engineering procedures and quality workflows.
    • Strong client‑focused approach and ability to interact confidently with site stakeholders.

    Commercial Manager

    • We are in search of an individual who can interface effectively with the regional and global CCL team members, grow to provide comprehensive commercial support to the senior leadership team, collaborate with our business unit leads and project managers to help them in pursuing business development opportunities and with developing commercial proposals, pricing and contracts that adhere to Hatch’s corporate governance requirements.

    Responsibilities

    • Contractual reviews and negotiations of services related agreements, in collaboration with legal counterparts in the CCL’s Contracts practice;

    • Client Engagement and communication with client procurement teams, developing client relationships with key clients and engaging as required, monitoring business opportunities;
    • Interface with Hatch Shared Services teams for Commercial proposals including Client Action (business opportunities, Pursuit Reviews), Finance (Rates, bonds, exchange rates, costs recoveries, country entity setup), Taxation, HR Mobility (project assignments).

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Engineering or Law;
    • Dual Business/Law degree or Master level degree would be a great asset;
    • Strong engagement skills with clients with the ability to communicate commercial/contractual principles clearly and persuasively to reach desired commercial outcomes;
    • 5-8 years' relevant commercial and/or contractual work experience, preferably in related business development/commercial role;
    • Excellent business writing and editing skills;
    • Excellent interpersonal, communications and presentation skills;
    • Strong business acumen and leadership potential with the ability to successfully collaborate with others at all levels of the organization and with counterparties in client organizations;
    • Confidant, articulate with a high level of self-motivation and teamwork;
    • Expert working knowledge of productivity and business software and tools
    • Willing to work in the office full-time
