    Deputy Head of Project Development (m/f/d)

    Objectives

    Reporting directly to the Head of the Department (“HOD”), in addition to performing much of the objectives and tasks of a Senior Project Development Manager (detailed further on), the objective of this role is to assist in the various management activities allowing the HOD to spend more time in strategic initiatives. 

    The Deputy is also expected to develop the skills to be able to cover for the HOD for periods of time. The key objectives of the Department include but are not limited to;

    • Ensuring JUWI ZA’s portfolio of own renewable energy projects are highly competitive and sought after in the various markets within which the Company participates.
    • Converting the pipeline of opportunities into realised sales against agreed targets for RX4P and CPPA business models
    • Endeavouring to ensure that JUWI ZA’s Project Development Department (“Department”) are sufficiently resourced to meet the needs of the identified strategic markets, enjoy a suitable level of job satisfaction and are well-respected for their professional capability and integrity.

    Primary Responsibilities
    In summary, in addition to those of a Senior Project Development Manager, the role is responsible for the following:

    • Assist the HOD with the further refinement and effective rollout the organisation’s Strategy, ensuring it is strategically well-placed to meet the needs of the identified markets in the short, medium and long term.
    • Assist the HOD with the management of the Department in a manner that facilitates an optimized project, business and commercial development environment.
    • Assist the HOD with the management of the Department such that, within reasonable expectation considering internal and external dynamics, delivers on the Company’s Business Plan.
    • Assist various members of the Department with, and at times lead, contract negotiations for various Project Development and EPC Sales opportunities.
    • “Assistance” here will usually flow from meetings in which tasks will be discussed and shared but may also require delegated activities as appropriate.

    Assisting the HOD with the following primary tasks:

    • Consolidation of PD and BD activities and skills
    • Further development, refinement and management of the Department’s Strategies.
    • Further development and management of the reporting necessary for internal and external purposes.
    • Working with our partners to identify new business models and channels to open the private sector uptake of renewables projects, be it via direct PPAs, wheeling arrangements, or direct capital investment types of deals with related financing arrangements.
    • Oversight of the structuring of transactions while interfacing closely with the specific project team members.
    • Coordinating all aspects of the deal execution process, including negotiations and finalization of all project and financing agreements.
    • Managing the development and maintenance of the various financial models necessary for the PDEPC business models.
    • Supporting the optimization of any bid scorecard, as required.
    • Wind and Solar Project Development; Oversight of the optimisation and acquisition tasks necessary to maintain a highly competitive project portfolio. Assume the oversight role towards our clients with respect to the sale of projects. Position the company as far as possible as the lead developer in bilateral (embedded generation) deals with an emphasis on negotiating and contracting, to the extent possible, PPAs and related project agreements.
    • Develop an understanding of the competitive position of thermal and storage technologies and models and strategies to compete or collaborate as appropriate.
    • Actively finding and developing mechanisms to improve Team effectiveness.

    Other

    • Willingness to travel to relevant project sites and JUWI headquarters will be required in line with business requirements.
    • In addition to the duties mentioned above, the job holder is required to carry out other duties that are in essence part of his/her area of activity, according to his/her knowledge and abilities.

    Your Profile

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business or Natural Science
    • Strong commercial mindset with a solid knowledge of Project and Corporate Finance concepts
    • Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing time demands.
    • At least 5 years of work experience in the South African Renewable Energy Project Development sector
    • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with a proven track record in the closure of Project Sales Agreements
    • Experience in managing large interdisciplinary technical teams.
    • Strong understanding of the renewable energy industry, its drivers, KPIs and decision processes
    • Strong existing network in the South African renewable energy sector
    • Excellent oral and written communication
    • Fluency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat

    HR Business Partner (m/f/d)

    Objectives

    This role is responsible for proactively leading all aspects of tactical HR support for managers and employees across the business.  Reporting to the Head of HR, the HR Business Partner will support in identifying and executing initiatives that will enable business performance in line with the full HR Value Chain. The HR Business Partner will partner directly with functional business teams and be proactive in working with managers to maximize people performance.

    Primary Responsibilities
    Policies and Procedures

    • Assist with the development of HR policies and procedures
    • Update presentations, procedures manuals, etc.
    • Train employees on HR policies and procedures
    • Ensure all employees are adhering to HR policies and procedures and provide guidance and support in this regard
    • Managing and mitigating all people risks and ensuring compliance to company policies and relevant regulations

    Compliance and Reporting

    • Gather, capture and submit of Employment Equity data.
    • Draft and monitor the EE Plans for the entire Group
    • Provide information required for Department of Labour Inspections and related submissions.
    • Ensure Regulatory Compliance through engagement/ collaboration with relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with the Skills Development Act
    • Compile, implement, manage, and facilitate WSP & ATR and ensure yearly submissions

    Training and Development

    • Review Training & Development Processes in relation to Operational Strategy quarterly, ensure accurate record keeping and alignment with BBBEE and Skills Development spend
    • Ensure the relevant SETA Grant applications are done in time to ensure mandatory and discretionary grant allocations are received
    • Conduct skills audit to ensure that critical skills gaps are identified to form part of the planned training programme and are aligned to the relevant SETAs critical skills requirements
    • Maintain accurate records for all employee training and be able to retrieve such during any audits (including BBBEE)
    • Ensure training effectiveness is evaluated after each training, including requirements for SETA submission and BBBEE verification purpose
    • Investigate and initiate a bursary program for relevant departments
    • Collaborate with management and tertiary institutions to identify graduates
    • Manage closely the progress of employees who are selected for graduate development
    • Review current internship program

    Performance Management

    • Ensure that the performance appraisal process is conducted fairly and consistently.
    • Facilitate and assist line managers with Target agreements & PDD’s. 
    • Implementation of the full performance management cycle in the business unit/department   

    Onboarding

    • Manage and maintain the induction process for all new starters
    • Review, present & update the HR Induction presentation
    • Ensure all departments are adhering to the agreed priority mapping for induction presentations
    • Prepare & draft all offers and contracts of employment for new starters
    • Communicate new starter details with IT and Business Admin
    • Ensure all onboarding documents are sent to new starters on the day of joining
    • Manage the probationary process with line managers for the company

    Career Planning

    • Design and implement career development programs to help employees identify their career goals and pathways within the organization.
    • Work with employees & line managers to create Individual Development Plans that outline their career objectives, skills needed, and actions required for career advancement.

    Succession Planning

    • Develop and implement succession management, in collaboration with departmental managers
    • Identify critical roles and positions within the organization that are vital to its success and continuity.
    • Evaluate current employees to identify potential successors for key positions by assessing their skills, performance, and leadership potential.
    • Ensure that knowledge and skills are transferred from current incumbents to potential successors, through job shadowing, mentorship, or cross-training initiatives.
    • Implement leadership development programs and initiatives in support of the JUWI group leadership principles that will builds a pipeline of capable leaders for the organization.
    • Continuously monitor the progress and readiness of potential successors to adapt development plans as needed.
    • Maintain up-to-date records and documentation related to succession plans, including candidate profiles and development progress.

    O&M SHE Coordinator (m/f/d)

    Objectives 

    The main purpose of this role is to ensure that all activities of the O&M department are in line with the Laws and Regulations, juwi policy and best industry practice, regarding all aspects of Health, Safety and Environment.     Line and functional management reporting for this role will be to the Team Lead Operations – O&M SA.             Primary Responsibilities

    • Develop, improve, and implement Health & Safety as well as Quality Policies and Procedures, in the O&M department
    • Perform SHEQ Audits to ensure adherence to laws and regulations governing Health and Safety at all O&M Sites.  Monitoring implementation of SHE System.  Inspect SHE Files
    • Ensure that Safety, Health, and Environment resources are managed in the best continuing interests of the company. A broad understanding of the current skills and abilities in order to fully utilize the resources available
    • Manage O&M SHE Training Matrix.  Motivate applicable courses, obtain accredited quotations, and schedule training (including monitoring of expired certificates) throughout the year
    • Facilitate the provision of internal safety & health training for employees on policies, regulations, and procedures for O&M including Toolbox Talks (Health and Safety Awareness Training)
    • Provide advice, guidance, and support to all personnel including Directors, Managers, Supervisors, and engineers at all levels on all matters relating to Safety, Health and Environment in the workplace 
    • Facilitate bi-monthly Safety Focus meetings with all sites on the Teams platform
    • Implement the strategy for Safety, Health and Environmental compliance on site. To set realistic objectives, goals and targets while enrolling all personnel into the process. Maintain a culture that allows all individuals and teams to provide positive input into Safety, Health and Environment in their workplace 
    • Determines cause of unsafe acts and conditions through procedure review, equipment and facilities inspection, and worker observation with corrective action recommendations provided.  Be actively involved in all investigations (remote or on site depending on the type of incident) to find the root cause of incidents
    • Investigate and analysis of incident reports, metrics, and injury cases to institute changes that lead to a safer work environment
    • Interface with Clients during monthly site progress meetings.  Provide feedback with regards to incident investigations.  Respond to unforeseen circumstances and taking appropriate action
    • Collects and analyses injury and safety survey statistical data to institute changes that lead to a safer work environment. Quarterly KPI reporting to management
    • Maintain accurate and current records in accordance with guidelines.  Write technical reports and make presentations to management.  Support the Head of O&M with statistical information, SHE incentives, challenges, and achievements during the bi-annual board meetings
    • Monitor PPE Policy Procedure for adaptations to newly identified hazards and associated risks.  Manage annual replacement of PPE on all O&M sites
    • Onboarding of all new O&M sites.  Do a SHE gap analysis on all 3rd Party plants.  Induction and training to be provided on site for all new and 3rd party plant employees.  Implementation of the JUWI SHE system (Hard copy files.)
    • Maintains compliance with governmental regulatory agencies using a Legal Register and ensuring implementation of such
    • Support and assist with the implementation and monitoring of the ESMS system on all sites
    • Support the BBBEE audit process with all OHS training records (Invoices, Training Certificates, Summary Spreadsheet)
    • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate

    Your Profile

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Training and qualifications on HSE. (SAMTRAC/NOSA Certificates) /Diploma in Safety Management
    • At least 5 years’ experience in managing the HSE of operating PV plants (or other power plants)
    • At least 5 years’ experience in the O&M support of PV plants (or other power plants) would be highly beneficial
    • Excellent communication skills in English (oral and written)
    • Extensive experience in performing HSE audits on site
    • Experience in fall protection plan development

    Senior Legal Advisor (m/f/d)

    Objectives

    As an experienced EPC Contractor, with the direction of Head of Legal, you will primarily be responsible for all legal and contractual aspects and form an integral part of the teams responsible for: securing, closing and executing (from commencement to final completion), EPC and O&M Contracts for renewable energy projects both in South Africa (REIPPP and private) and the rest of Africa.
     
    Primary Responsibilities

    • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating EPC (bespoke and standard forms) and O&M Contracts and Subcontracts for projects both within South Africa and the rest of Africa (REIPPPP and private offtake) including the split EPC Contract model;
    • Drafting reviewing and negotiating supply agreements and subcontracts;
    • Managing and achieving financial close deliverables
    • Overseeing achievement of contractual deliverables
    • Providing legal support to procurement, operations and maintenance, and contract and project managers both during contract negotiation and project execution; and
    • Assist the legal department in providing accurate, timely and relevant advice to JUWI Employees on all matters relating to JUWI’s.

    Your Profile

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Legal degree with projects construction knowledge
    • 3 years post admission experience preferably within a construction practice group in a top tier South African law firm, alternatively proven in-house experience
    • Experience in REIPPP Projects, Energy Projects generally and energy regulation
    • Experience, knowledge and understanding of contract management
    • Experience in offshore renewable energy projects (outside of South Africa) would be an advantage

    Senior Project Development Manager (m/f/d)

    Objectives

    The Project Development Unit predominantly develops utility-scale solar, wind and hybrid projects to be bid in the REIPPPP (or other sovereign backed programs in Africa) or used as the basis of possible utility scale embedded or wheeling projects in the future. 

    As a Senior Project Development Manager (m/f/d) within JUWI, working with and overseeing more junior members of the Development Team, you will be required to manage the various project development tasks necessary. Depending on each market and business model, these tasks variously include site selection, land acquisition, plant layout, permitting and the commercial negotiations for the sale of project equity and procurement of goods and services. These tasks cover the development phase through financial close to construction phase support.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Project Management: Oversee multiple wind, solar, and hybrid projects in various development stages, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
    • Site Identification & Design: Utilize advanced GIS tools for project site selection; collaborate on plant design tasks, including turbine, PV array, and electrical layouts.
    • Landowner & Investor Relations: Assist in landowner negotiations and participate in investor selection processes.
    • Budget & Financial Oversight: Establish and manage project budgets and assist with project financial modelling.
    • Licensing & Permitting: Oversee project licensing tasks, coordinating with statutory organizations for necessary approvals and permits.
    • Team Leadership: Provide guidance to junior members of the Development Team, ensuring consistency and quality in project development efforts.
    • Negotiations & Agreements: Develop, negotiate, and finalize development and project site sales agreements; contribute to tender submissions.
    • Risk Management & Reporting: Mitigate project risks, maintain regular progress reports, and participate in project and programme reviews as needed.
    • Support to EPC Sales Team: Offer project development assistance to the EPC Sales Team based on individual project needs.

    Your Profile

    Qualifications and Experience

    • A degree in Engineering, Business or Natural Science
    • Proven ability to speak and write fluently in English.
    • High degree of project development experience within the renewable energy sector (ideally within REIPPPP) or in other industries facing similar challenges, such as infrastructure and construction
    • Proven commercial experience in the negotiation of Project Sale Agreements
    • Possession of a valid, South Africa Code 08 driver’s license
    • Motivated, driven and ability to self-manage.
