PURPOSE OF THE JOB

• To safely carry out preventive maintenance and repairs to the plant in line with planned, unplanned, breakdown and documented work

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

Safety, Health, Environment and Quality:

• Participate and comply with SHEQ Requirements (SHEQ Toolbox)
• Ensure adherence to health, safety, environment, risk and quality standards and requirements
• Comply with OHSA standards, statutory regulations, conform to safety standards, housekeeping standards (5S) and planned maintenance system requirements

People:

• Ensure co-operation as a team member during team activities and tasks

Customers:

• Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering a first-time right service to them 

Business Processes:

• Perform the job as outlined in the work order and as per the detailed task list
• Capture history & complete the notification to the required standard
• Apply fault-finding techniques to resolve field instrument, PLC and related issues
• Be able to apply basic understanding of Low Voltage systems to assist with fault finding and identification of root cause failures
• Conduct regular plant inspections as per schedules, report and correct any deviations found
• Maintaining Instrumentation documentation including drawings
• Confirm work order with the correct time and all details to the required standard
• Provide feedback to the Maintenance Supervisor on any task where there is a difference between the task instruction and job requirements
• Communicate if spares, equipment or other factors were not available for job on the work order and to the Maintenance Supervisor
• Generate notifications from inspections and subsequent notifications
• Attend to breakdown quickly and safely
• Capture all data related to the stoppage to aid in determining the root cause
• Communicate ways of improving how the breakdown was handled to the Maintenance Supervisor
• Work from heights and in confined spaces and follow the various procedures related to such
• Perform general housekeeping as part of the relevant tasks allocated

     Rotable Management:

• Change out item
• Create PM order detailing item to be drawn from stock
• Create reservation for rotable on PM order
• Create subsequent notification
• Complete all fields on the “Damage” tag on the return item to rotable store
• Physically transport damaged rotable to lay down area

Mobile Equipment:

• Lift and move loads by means of a Forklift
• Handle loads by means of an Overhead Crane, Hoist and or Lifting Tackle and or machinery
• Operate Aerial/Boom/Cherri Picker

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Chemical/Metallurgical B.Eng./BSc. (Eng.) Degree or National Diploma with specialization in Chemistry or Metallurgy
• 4 years’ relevant C-Upper experience gained in metallurgical operations (BOF, Steel Plant, DC furnaces, Sub Arc Furnaces)
• Computer Literacy (MS Office)

ADVANTAGEOUS

• SAP and COUPA experience
• Driver’s License (minimum B/ Code 8)
• Minimum of one year experience in a Supervisory or Management capacity
• A recognized managerial qualification

Work execution:

• Perform planned job observations
• Document and review the plant maintenance strategy on an annual basis to ensure   that it is aligned with the business plan
• Ensure strict adherence to maintenance work management principles (percent planned work, adherence to schedule, number of breakdowns, number of proactive requests) to obtain maximum plant availability at minimum maintenance cost per unit produced
• Manage the Engineering Assets to ensure that they produce at their designed capacity  and are periodically refurbished to their original condition to ensure optimal life
• Ensure strict adherence to the relevant engineering standards and specifications
• Periodically audit the asset and documentation to obtain maximum standardisation of spares and new plant installations on the site

Work Analysis:

• Interrogate non-published reports standard
• Investigate and communicate commercial exceptions
• Follow up warranty claims on component failures on high criticality equipment
• Required to work on the last day of the month (Weekends and Public Holidays)

Process Management:

• Optimise plant throughput, maintain low export stocks and low Pre-Crush-WIP
• Optimise loading/dispatch process to reduce vehicle turnaround times, rail/road
• Quality management to ensure in-specification cargo is sent off site
• Stock reporting and reconciliation

System Management:

• Comply to and improve SHE system
• Own, maintain and improve the MES system

Research and Development:

• Research alternative processes to recover Cr, final product handling, on-site material handling, equipment utilization and reduce operational expenses etc
• Improve quality management and control tools/systems

Documentation:

• Own, maintain and improve the Business Unit documentation system with adequate record keeping

Supplier Management:

• Review existing arrangements to drive down total cost for both Samancor Chrome and our Suppliers
• Identify, develop and implement opportunities to leverage the group position in the market place

Contract Management:

• Source, maintain and manage onsite service providers
• Negotiate contractual terms and conditions
• Implement and manage Service Level Agreements

Tenders:

• Determine customer requirements and research market, commodities and suitable suppliers
