Metallurgy Superintendent (North West) at Samancor Chrome

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

• To ensure safe and efficient operation of the metallurgical plant, ensuring production targets are achieved and product meets quality specifications whilst ensuring compliance to MHSA regulations.

SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY:

• Manage SHEQ compliance within the Section through effective use of the Toolbox
• Utilise the Information Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status.
• Ensure compliance with the provisions of the MHSA in area of responsibility (2.6.1 Legal Appointment).
• Relieve the Metallurgical Manager as a 3.1(a) Legal Appointee when required.

PEOPLE:

Manage the section:

• Ensure an enabling climate/culture in line with Samancor culture
• Manage performance against targets (IDP’s) and conduct career discussions with identified talent
• Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, overtime, misconduct, lateness, etc.)
• Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels
• Conduct recruitment interviews.

CUSTOMERS:

• Ensure production quality in line with WCM Specifications and/or Customer requirements
• Key customers: Marketing, Logistics.

BUSINESS PROCESSES:

Metallurgical Performance:

• Ensure the safe and environmentally friendly operation of the chrome metallurgical processes
• Ensure plant availability and utilization to achieve production targets
• Control Metallurgical performance
• Achieve Metallurgy Budget
• Achieve Metallurgy Quality objectives
• Liaise with Mining, Maintenance, Laboratory and Logistics to ensure effective and efficient process flow.

GROWTH:

• Manage Continuous Improvement through Operational Excellence.

SHAREHOLDER VALUE:

• Manage the section costs.
• Optimize section costs to reduce Cost of Production (COP).

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• BSC / BTech Degree Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering

Additional qualifications and Experience:

• At least 6 years’ Production experience in chrome beneficiation.
• 2 years (but preferably 3 years Managerial/Supervisory experience) preferably in a 2.6.1 or 3.1 Legal appointee role
• MDP or MBA will be highly advantageous

Skills:
