    Heritage Specialist, South Africa

    Job Description: 

    We are looking for someone who will provide specialist services in our Cultural Heritage offering including Heritage Impact Assessments, Archaeological Impact Assessments, mitigation of all heritage resources, heritage management plans and research.

    • Manage and develop our Cultural Heritage Resources Management processes.
    • Develop and implement cultural heritage mitigation plans including grave relocations, archaeological and historical site mitigation, and cultural heritage management plans.
    • Project manage and complete specialist Cultural Heritage studies including compiling and reviewing Heritage Impact Assessments, Paleontological Impact Assessments and Archaeological Impact Assessments for client and authority reviews.
    • Audit, review, monitor and evaluate cultural heritage plan implementation on behalf of the client.
    • Conduct archaeological, historical, cultural and other research, providing findings in report format.
    • Undertake field-based surveys and assessments including in-field recording and documentation of cultural heritage.
    • Develop and manage cultural heritage databases.
    • Participate in business development activities including, developing fit-for-purpose proposals.
    • Build and maintain client relationships.
    • Carry out field work under strenuous conditions.

    Qualifications, experience and requirements:

    • Honours Degree in Anthropology or Archaeology (preferably Masters).
    • Registered Member with the Association of Southern African Professional Archaeologists.

    Work Experience

    • 6 or more years in the relevant field, preferably within consulting would be beneficial.
    • Experience in the mining and resources industry would be beneficial.

    Other 

    • Must have a driver’s licence.
    • Environmental, Water, Mining and Social legislation.
    • Financial Management (Such as budgeting, forecasting etc.).
    • Customer Management.
    • Strong Report Writing.
    • Excellent mentorship and coaching skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
    • Must be innovative.
    • French, Spanish or Portuguese Language skills would be beneficial.
    • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and prepared to obtain other vaccinations that may be required by clients and for travel purposes.

    Grave Relocation Specialist, South Africa

    Job Description: 

    We are looking for someone who will manage the complete relocation process including project conceptualisation, planning, liaising with clients and their next of kin, social consultation and application for all the relevant and necessary permit.

    • Manage, implement and develop our grave relocation processes and projects from consultation and permitting to exhumation and re-internment, and close-out.
    • Manage and develop grave relocation engagement plans in consultation with the Stakeholder Engagement team.
    • Develop, manage and maintain relationships with 3rd party contractors, to facilitate the grave relocation process.
    • Compile and review scientific reports for submission to client and/or legal authorities.

    Junior Geochemist, South Africa

    Job Description: 

    We are looking for a dynamic and innovative Junior Geochemist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be someone who loves the outdoors, is passionate about chemistry and geology/geohydrology and its practical applications to achieving a sustainable future.
    Conducting fieldwork to collect samples from study sites.

    • Coordinating sample preparation and laboratory analysis with commercial and research laboratories.
    • Analysing and interpreting diverse chemical and hydro-chemical data sets obtained from a variety of geochemical tests, such as water quality analysis, acid base accounting, net acid generation, X-Ray Diffraction, X-Ray Fluorescence and both static and kinetic leachate procedures (batch, column and humidity cell tests).
    • Geochemical modelling using specialised software, such as Phreeqc and Geochemist's Workbench to predict water or drainage quality.;
    • Developing and managing databases to effectively track and organize data and information.
    • Liaising with clients and regulatory authorities.
    • Compiling and preparing reports for submission to the client and relevant authorities.

    Qualifications, experience and requirements:

    • A bachelor's degree in geochemistry, geology, chemistry, or a related field.
    • An Honours/Master’s degree in geochemistry, geology, or chemistry is preferred.

    Work Experience

    • Familiarity with using geochemical software packages, with preference given to experience with Geochemist's Workbench or Phreeqc.
    • 1-2 years of experience in a geochemistry/hydro-geochemistry role, preferably within the mining industry.

    Other 

    • Proficiency in relevant environmental legislations.
    • Strong organisational skills.
    • Excellent report writing skills.
    • Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
    • Ability to establish and maintain client networks.
    • Proficiency in French or Spanish would be advantageous.

    Assistant Ecologist, South Africa

    Job Description: 

    The successful candidate will be required to provide advice and assistance in the facilitating and providing specialist inputs for the compilation of reports, such as Biodiversity Assessments, Action plans, and EMPs specifically within (but not limited to) an African context.

    • Study and identify the different plant and animal species on a specific site
    • Conduct field surveys to collect data on selected Species of Conservation Concern
    • Competent in identifying the organisms according to their species and characteristics (taxonomy).
    • Apply sampling strategies and employ habitat survey techniques using GPS, aerial photography, sonar images, and maps etc.
    • Conduct and manage assessments as part of larger integrated projects, such as botanical, faunal and other ecological assessments.)
    • Compile reports for submission to client and/or legal authorities.

    Qualifications, experience and requirements:

    • B.Sc. Hons degree (M.Sc. preferred) in related ecological fields or practice.
    • SACNASP-registered in appropriate field of practice

    Work Experience

    • 1-2 years of experience in an ecological consulting role.

    Other 

    • Specialists knowledge of terrestrial fauna and flora, particularly faunal experience (e.g. herpetology, small mammals, etc.);
    • Experience with faunal and/or ecology-based research methodologies;
    • Willing and able to travel within remote parts of Africa Plant species identification skills would be advantageous;
    • FGASA training and supporting tracking skills would be advantageous;
    • Detailed understanding of applicable environmental legislation would be beneficial;
    • Holistic thinker in application of conservation and sustainable land management would be advantageous;
    • Project management experience would an advantage.
