As the engineering lead you will:

• Champion the needs of our international customer base through customer empathy, iteration, and service ownership.
• Write clean, testable code, which will be a model for the team around you.
• Technically lead a diverse portfolio of full-stack engineering projects.
• Oversee the development and live operation of systems related to our journey into new markets.
• Grow the team by hiring exceptional talent, coaching and developing engineers, cultivating pragmatic engineering decision-making, and leveraging your technical & managerial expertise to constantly raise the bar.
• Work with other leaders across multiple teams and departments to define the technical direction for the expansion business.
• Continuously develop relationships with product, engineering, expansion and other key stakeholders across teams and tribes.

Key requirements:

• A curious, passionate, growth-oriented mindset.
• A desire to teach, improve, and otherwise force multiply the strengths of the engineers that surround you.
• At least 2 years experience managing and mentoring engineers (including providing feedback, investing in the career growth of your team members and growing teams).
• Experience designing and building full-stack applications in complex environments.

• High-level thinker, but also detail-oriented when executing on projects
• Emotional intelligence, empathy, and ability to establish trusting and strong relationships

ROLE | WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING?

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• Build, maintain and release our React Native (iOS and Android) applications as well as our React web portal.
• Assist in providing a platform for other teams to contribute into our app, as well as contributing to the technical direction of our mobile and web assets.
• Being a highly technical, hands-on and effective lead for a team of 3 - 5 engineers, including task planning and code reviews.
• Working with our Product Managers as well as our design and UX minds to ensure that we deliver continuous business value to our growing base of customers.
• Doing the hard and complicated to make it easier and simple.

IDEAL CANDIDATE | WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Key requirements to perform responsibilities:

• Strong React skills with experience building complex apps in React
• React Native experience is preferred but not absolutely required
• Experience in state management in large apps (e.g. Redux or other state management strategies)
• 8+ years as a professional Software Engineer.
• You can deliver stable yet flexible software that allows us to iterate quickly in order to deliver features.
• You build re-usable solutions that others can use to avoid re-inventing the wheel every time.
• A clear, real passion for software engineering.
• Strong ability to work independently while still being collaborative and inclusive.
• Feeling a sense of excitement when offering input and contributing to the broader product discussion.
• Proven ability in taking a feature or product all the way from conception to completion and release.
• You enjoy providing technical direction and mentoring to other developers.
• You feel empowered by learning and teaching new things and using modern technology.
• You are excellent at solving complicated problems, understanding real-world issues and delivering high-performance software.

Bonus points/nice to have:

• Native mobile development experience (iOS and/or Android)
• Backend development experience, or API design experience.
• BSc Computer Science or equivalent is highly encouraged.
• Experience leading teams, designing and architecting products, working with customers

• Integrate new card machine hardware into the SDK.
• Provide a platform that allow other parties to integrate Yoco payments into their applications.
• Work with our Product Management, Design and UX minds to ensure that we deliver continuous value to our growing base of customers.
• Do the hard and complicated to make it easier and simple.

You may be a fit for this role if:

• You have 4+ years experience as a professional Software Engineer.
• You have strong iOS experience (Swift or Objective C)
• You’re passionate about building tools for developers and businesses
• You've got a proven ability in taking a feature or product all the way from conception to completion and release.
• You like to nurture, mould and mentor junior developers.
• You build re-usable solutions that others can use to avoid re-inventing the wheel every time.

Bonus points:

• BSc Computer Science or equivalent is highly encouraged.
• Experience with SDK or API design
• You also like to work in Android (we use Kotlin)
• Knowledge of multiple programming languages - especially new cross platform technologies like React Native.
• Experience leading teams, designing and architecting products, working with customers
• Experience in the payments industry.

Yoco is a remote-first company, and will accept applications from anywhere. Preference will however be given to an individual who is either from South Africa, or who has lived in South Africa for an extended period of time, to enable their ability to understand the context and empathise with our customers.

ROLE | WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING?

Key Responsibilities:

• The Art Director is responsible for the innovation, creation and continuous improvement of digital marketing assets at Yoco. 
• Work in partnership with the Growth Creative Lead to direct in-house (as well as freelance) copywriters and designers on ideation, strategy and craft. 
• Direct and set the tone for all art involved in Yoco’s digital communication, across Paid Social, Web, CRM.
• Ensure Yoco’s brand representation is consistent throughout all digital marketing channels.
• Further develop and innovate our design language, assets, and communication, tailored to the characteristics of each channel along the acquisition funnel. 
• Implement continuous improvement processes, driving awareness, customer engagement and sales. 
• Assist in Brand ideation; build strong, long-term relationships with brand marketing and in-house design studio teams.
• Assist in the development and refinement of workflows and processes                                                                                       
• Mentor the in-house and freelance designers and animators.

• Experience in design thinking – ability to do iterative designing and prototyping with customer and data input

• Mastery of the business design landscape, including but not limited to design intelligence, measurement, KPIs, organizational change, design storytelling, design thinking, culture change, coaching; evidence of fresh, original perspective.
• AB testing & continuous improvement management (process, systems)                  
• Big picture thinker with an obsession for detail
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent organizational, project management and time management skills.
• You have advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat Pro as well as extensive experience in CSS & HTML
