    Business Unit Manager - Boksburg

    Position Purpose

    •  In conjunction with the M&D Leadership Team to develop and execute the new business strategy
    •  To lead the new business team to deliver new business in identified target markets and categories, and through a solutioning approach deliver maximised revenue growth (short and long run) and sustainable profitability.
    •  The focus will be on H1/H2 growth strategies and New Business Opportunities within the Manufacturing and Distributors in South Africa; with the primary emphasis on supplier integration and growth through and from CHEPs existing customer base. (Focus on the FMCG, IBC and Beverage market sectors).
    •  To create a sustained high-performing environment that attracts, retains and encourages high performance and engagement.
    •  Actively participate in setting the direction, programs and priorities for sales

    Key Accountabilities 

    • Leadership and Management of New Business to achieve:
    •  Revenue and profit targets
    •  Sustainable business strategies
    •  Implementation of strategies to drive industry-based models
    •  New market development
    •  Relationships with key customers
    •  Relationships with key suppliers
    •  Understanding of market trends including systems, processes, geographic impacts and competitor activity to ensure the strategy remains relevant and effective.

    •  Setting and measuring budgets
    •  Working closely with Commercial and Supply Chain functions to define the business case and ensure that customer requirements are met at least cost.

    Key Requirements

    •  Degree in Business-related area or similar quantitative discipline is essential.

    •  Excellent negotiating skills
    •  A high level of customer focus
    •  Excellent time management, and an ability to manage complexity

    Safety Specialist - Cornubia

    Position Purpose:

    The role is responsible for providing practical specialist HSE support within the coastal region. Having a high level of interaction with regional OPS Leaders, SHEQ teams, frontline teams and general staff, supporting and coaching in the deployment of sustainable safety programs aimed at building a Safety-first culture.

    The role also leads/participates in global & regional strategic safety projects including the communication, sharing and implementation of outcomes across their regional scope.

    Responsibilities

    Strategy Deployment

    • Align & support operations to develop site specific HSE & Wellbeing Improvement plans (Tier 4 Plans). Assure HSE & Wellbeing plans are embedded, effective and sustainable throughout the coastal region.

    HSE technical expertise and support

    • Provide expert HSE advice and guidance across the coastal region.
    • Support the deployment of strategic safety projects (i.e., machine guarding improvements, fire improvements pedestrian segregation improvements etc.,).
    • Lead/support regional concept to completion process for all engineering projects and equipment upgrades.

    Safety Differently & Culture Promotion

    • Support culture transformation initiatives through the Safety Differently Philosophy by promoting the activation of learning teams and the sharing of learnings.
    • Support OPS Leaders to proactively drive Safety through Active Leadership at site level.

    Coaching and Mentoring

    • Serve as a mentor and coach for plant leaders and other key stakeholders on Safety.
    • Provide safety specialist support, coaching and mentoring to Regional SHEQ Leaders and Plant Safety Clerks.

    HSE Awareness

    • Lead/support regional HSE awareness programs and campaigns aimed at improving safety performance.
    • Lead Safety awareness sessions as part of empowering our teams to adopt a Safety First mindset and Safety ownership (i.e., SLAM Awareness, Brambles Absolute Safety First Rules awareness etc.

    Incident reporting, investigation and review

    • Support the region by ensuring all incidents are reported on iCARE timeously, investigated properly, are classified and reported in accordance with the Global incident reporting policy and applicable local legislative requirements.
    • Provide specialist support on investigations to understand events and “real” underlying factors negating opportunity for incident repetition.
    • Lead/support significant incident response and oversight activities as designated by the Senior HSE Manager.
    • Coach sites to generate and analyse incident trends and develop proactive focused interventions aimed at improving Safety performance.

    Compliance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

    • Support the GAP audit program ensuring corrective actions are closed out timeously.
    • Promote HSE continuous improvement initiatives within the region.

    General responsibilities

    • Support coastal regions for the SSA Leadership Quarterly Safety Review Meetings.
    • Compile monthly regional safety performance reports.
    • Monitor compensation costs and continually improve safety performance.
    • Reviewing Tier 3 & Tier 4 procedures as needed ensuring distribution to appropriate stakeholders.
    •  Support sites in the generation and sharing of good practices aimed at improving safety and   simplifying ways of working.

    Qualifications

    • A Tertiary 3- year Qualification (Diploma/Degree) in Safety/HSE

    Experience

    • Prior experience in a safety role in a manufacturing environment.
    • At least 5-7 years’ experience in a safety role or operational implementation of safety programs.
    • Experienced in practical and sustainable safety solutions.
    • Experience of working with regulatory bodies and labour representatives.
    • Strong customer focus orientation.
    • Experienced in driving collaborative change.
    • Effective at stakeholder relationships.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and strategic thinking ability.
    • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally.

    Area Maintenance Supervisor - Bloemfontein

    Job Description

    Position Purpose

    The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring that all Pallet, RPC and Container plants and equipment in the region is optimally planned, procured, installed, and maintained according to all corporate and legislative requirements. Ensuring that all plant, tools, and equipment always deliver optimal production under the safest conditions and maintaining minimal machine down time. The incumbent will be responsible for adhering to and maintaining all company, legislative and regulatory safe work requirements, and practices. He/she will be required to cost, and time estimates of the planned maintenance work and prepare applicable technical documentation to promote quality and defect-free maintenance work.

    Responsibilities

    People and Safety

    • Promotes and fosters the CHEP culture of Zero Harm
    • Maintains the corporate safety strategy in all plants
    • Manages and controls Operational and Engineering strategic goals and objectives
    • Recruits, motivates and develops subordinate staff which includes succession planning.
    • Uses effective people management and communication skills
    • Ensures that good communications, sound relationships are maintained
    • Assists and prepares for GAP, SEMP and Environmental audits by assisting and ensuring that the region is compliant to the set of requirements.

    Cost and Metrics

    • Drives efficiencies throughout the plant in order to reduce cost.
    • Ensures that all plants in the region deliver optimum production through their plant and equipment
    • Proposes and presents projects and plans for new plant installations and replacements through effective cost saving initiatives
    • Drives ‘over time’ down and reduces plant ‘down time’ that are caused by maintenance
    • Reports monthly to Management on all maintenance costs, expenses, and overtime
    • Assists in vendor creation and getting the best service out of our current vendors.
    • Assists in developing and implementing SLAs for contract suppliers
    • Responsible for the up-keep and accuracy of equipment maintenance history and job records database
    • Perform root cause analysis and conduct investigations
    • Schedule maintenance work into production plans

    Stock Management

    • Assists plants in managing stores and maintenance stocks efficiently.
    • Ensures that the plants are efficiently and effectively stocked with the necessary tools and equipment to support the PMS programme

    Quality

    • Ensures that the minimum quality standards are maintained
    • Sets high standards on equipment received and ensures that all equipment delivers desire results in volume and quality.

    Plant and Property Maintenance

    • Ensures overall compliance to all CHEP Operational SOP’s as well as local laws which includes LRA, BCEA, EE, OSH Act
    • Ensures that all plants in the region have a controlled preventative maintenance plan in place.
    • Promotes and manages the safe, efficient, and effective use of all plant and equipment.
    • Ensures that all breakdowns are attended to immediately
    • Assists in the Designs, Installations and Commissioning of new plants.
    • Plans for expansion

    Classification: General

    • Is an expert on the PMS (Plant Maintenance System) for SAP Operational Systems
    • Ensures that all legal and statutory requirements (such as labour legislation) as well as Company policies and procedures applicable to the Operations function are implemented
    • Ensures efficient and effective operating methods (i.e., for inspection, repair, manufacture, etc.) are developed and maintained to achieve productivity, quality, and cost targets.
    • Ensures that purchasing systems are applied in line with best practice.

    General

    • Ensures the effective management of planned maintenance for all plants
    • Ensures the adequate security and control of all Company assets in the Region
    • Develop and maintains effective relationships with suppliers.
    • Ensures that all products and services meet Customer satisfaction

    Qualifications

    • Required: Millwright or suitable qualification in the mechanical or electrical engineering field Advantageous: An accredited Mechanical or Electrical Eng degree

    Experience

    • Incumbent should have between 5-10 years’ experience in the mechanical and electrical fields. (Specific exposure to Allan Bradley and Siemens systems will be advantageous), which includes approximately at least 3 years managerial experience. Specific exposure and experience to the design and implementation of PMS through SAP is a requirement.

    Skills and Knowledge

    • Computer literacy (SAP, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Assertive with good communication, organisational and negotiation skills ( Written and oral)
    • Sound business and commercial acumen.
    • Ability to read and interpret vendor manuals and drawings
