Responsibilities

• Ensuring compliance to the Mines Health & Safety Act and related Standard Operating Procedures, and Codes of Practice
• Accurate and timeous reporting of all relevant safety and production matters
• Ensuring that all relevant production targets are met continuously
• Ensuring control of explosives and that planning and budget is controlled and applied correctly
• Ensuring effective availability and utilization of equipment and materials
• Promoting and developing team effectiveness within the department
• Developing and managing of subordinates, as well as managing of attendance and discipline
• Providing and maintaining a safe environment with minimum risk to the health and safety of crews

Qualifications

• Be in possession of a Matric / Grade 12 Qualification or Equivalent
• Be in possession of a recognized Shift Supervisor Certificate of Competency and a Blasting Certificate
• Have at least 3 years’ experience as a Miner / Shift Supervisor in a trackless mining environment, with specific Longhole Stoping experience
• Have completed the relevant Health & Safety Courses and be Computer Literate (Microsoft suite)
• Have strong communication skills and be proficient in English
• Have excellent achievements in safety, production and cost control
• Have strong interpersonal and supervisory skills
• Be highly motivated self-starter with proven positive attendance record
• Must be in possession of a valid driver’s license
• Successfully undertake security screening with zero material findings
• Be declared medically fit for the position and the environment, as determined by the risk based medical examination at the relevant Gold Fields Occupation Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test.

Minimum Requirements

• Be in possession of a Matric / Grade 12 Qualification or Equivalent
• Be in possession of the relevant Longhole Rig Certificate and License (Certificate of Competency)
• Have at least 2 years’ experience in a mining environment
• Successfully complete a Dover assessment, at a level appropriate to the position
• Be highly motivated self-starter with proven positive attendance record
• Must be in possession of a valid driver’s license
• Successfully undertake security screening with zero material findings
• Be in possession of a valid Blasting Certificate (advantageous)
• Successfully completed Competent A and B (advantageous)
• Have at least 2 years’ experience as a Longhole Rig Operator in a mining environment (advantageous)
• Be declared medically fit for the position and the environment, as determined by the risk based medical examination at the relevant Gold Fields Occupation Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test.
