    Clinical Nurse (R/N) - PB Qualified (12 Months) - Theatre

    ROLE SUMMARY

    • The Professional Scrub Nurse/Clinical Nurse is a professional who remains responsible for the assessment, planning, and implementation of individualised, holistic, and person-centred nursing care of a patient, their families, or the community, performed either directly or indirectly. The incumbent ultimately coordinates patient care within the concept of the multi-disciplinary health team.
    • The incumbent also fulfils the role using scientifically based nursing theories and processes, treating the patients as a physical, social, and spiritual individual, and by use of educational and technical means applicable to health care practice. The Scrub Registered Nurse will be responsible for the wellbeing of the patient intra operatively, assessment of the patient to ensure delivery of high-quality care to patients whilst in theatre, in accordance with hospital standards and policies and is a role model in the delivery of evidence-based care.
    • The incumbent will be responsible for the preparation /checking /control and charging of stock / supervision and maintenance of instrumentation and equipment. Timeously complete capital expenditure documentation as per doctor’s preferences where applicable. Will be responsible for and is held accountable for his/her own acts and omissions. Theatre activities form part of the planned operational requirements. The incumbent will further be responsible and actively participate in Clinical Governance.

    CONSISTANCY OF CARE

    Patient care

    • Serve as a clinical resource in assisting personnel to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document nursing care in the unit.
    • Ensure communication and interaction with family and health professionals regarding optimal patient care, thereby acting as a patient advocate when necessary.
    • Ensure communication between nursing management and unit to eliminate patient care problems / issues.
    • Assess, plan and implement advanced nursing care in a specialized field in accordance with standard nursing care procedures, as set out in the standards and SOPs as well as nursing care theory and medical direction.

    Pharmacist

    ROLE SUMMARY

    • The Pharmacist will be responsible for the provision of medication and supplementary services to patients and members of the healthcare team.  The incumbent will also assume responsibility for meeting patients’ needs in a responsible, satisfactory and cost-effective manner.

    SKILLS PROFILE

    • A grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification.
    • Must have a Diploma in General Nursing or Diploma in (General, Psychiatric & Community) And Accoucheur/ Midwife)
    • Registered as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council 
    • Relevant qualification within a specialist area
    • Previous experience in a Private Hospital Environment will be advantageous

    • At least 2 years’ experience in an ICU   
    • Must be ICU Trained
    • Thorough knowledge of general / specialized nursing theory and practice

    Enrolled Nurse - ED

    Role summary:

    • The Enrolled Nurse is responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of a patient or group of patients and will function under the direct and/or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse. 
    • The incumbent is held accountable for his/her own acts and omissions. 
    • Nursing activities form part of a nursing regime that is planned and initiated by the Registered Nurse.  The Enrolled Nurse will be responsible for the assessment, care and meeting of patient needs and will also be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of appropriate programmes of care to ensuring high quality patient care.

    CONSISTENCY OF CARE
    Administration Management

    • Ensure that all documentation is maintained timeously and accurately, reflecting patient care.
    • Ensure all stock is charged appropriately.
    • Assist with file compilation.

    Governance, quality and risk management

    • Maintain a therapeutic, clean and safe environment that is free from medico-legal hazards.
    • Adhere to Netcare medical waste management principles and all other waste management principles.
    • Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with the Machinery and Occupational Safety Act.

    • Execute all procedures according to hospital standards.
    • Refer all complaints from patients and doctors to sister-in-charge of the unit.
