    MTC Coordinator

    Job Description

    • This position is central to the missionaries' role to 'Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.' The MTC Coordinator is an entry support level individual contributor that supports administrative and secretarial needs for different groups of our operations teams. The coordinator works with the MTC management to provide support/service to missionaries, staff and vendors.

    Responsibilities

    • Greets, welcomes, and provides directions for missionaries, MTC official visitors and visitingpublic
    • Corresponds and works with MTC employees, ecclesiastical leaders, various churchdepartments, missionaries, and general public
    • Communicates MTC standards, protocols and policies to missionaries and visiting personnel
    • Oversees inventory of various resources (missionary materials, office supplies, MTC vehicles,etc.)
    • Oversee missionaries’ daily physical activities/ service/ temple trips/ devotionals/ personal and companionship study
    • Help arrange dental and medical appointments, and transport missionaries to set appointment
    • Assist with the engraving of name tags and capturing access fingerprints
    • Receives packages and distribute materials for missionaries
    • Organizes and reviews missionary information/itineraries/items in preparation for arrival toMTC or departure from MTC and arrival at mission
    • Tracks important missionary information/ items
    • Assists in compiling missionary training /translation/practice schedules
    • Assists in evaluating processes to increase efficiency and accuracy.
    • May include othertemporary assigned duties at the MTC (e.g. assisting with MTC missionary intake anddepartures)

    Qualifications

    • Must hold a current / valid temple recommend and/or be worthy to hold one
    • Matric and experience with administration functions.
    • Familiar with computers and MS office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint andOutlook
    • Excellent Public Relation skills
    • A high degree of personal organization and self-management even in stressful situations
    • Manage complex and highly confidential information
    • Excellent social skills, able to operate with diplomacy, tact, and empathy
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and achieve deadlines under pressure
    • Ability to understand and strictly uphold policies and procedures
    • Ability to learn new computer programs quickly to successfully perform the essential functions of the job

    Preferred:

    • Returned missionary,
    • Valid driver’s license
    • MTC teaching experience

    MTC Teacher Trainer

    Job Description

Teacher Trainers are lead support level individual contributors, responsible for ensuring that in-residence missionaries receive effective training by leading teachers, conducting individual and group trainings, and facilitating ongoing improvement and coaching of teacher performance. It is expected that a Teacher Trainers will assist in overseeing the work of 10-15 teachers

    Responsibilities
    Reports to manager level in Training Department

    Trains and provides ongoing evaluation and development of teachers and missionaries (75%)

    • Provides individual coaching and continuing in-service training of teachers through leading weekly meetings
    • Provides teachers with materials and policy information.
    • Observes and evaluate missionaries and teachers.
    • Facilitates opportunities for teacher improvement according to needs.
    • Assists the Manager of Training in training new teachers prior to classroom experience.
    • Ensures teachers understand and effectively teach approved MTC curriculum.
    • Leads in establishing updates or new MTC curriculum
    • Fills in as a classroom teacher when needed

    Leads in advocating for missionary well-being (10%)

    • Evaluates missionary experience and performance.
    • Ensures the well-being of each missionary.
    • Leads teachers in providing for the individual needs of missionaries. 
    • Leads teachers in creating an ideal learning environment.

     Administrative Functions (5%)

    • Handles day-to-day supervisory matters, conferring with Manager of Training regarding disciplinary issues.
    • Provides timely recommendations for teacher merit increases.
    • Coordinates with other Lead Teachers regarding common employees.

    Assists the Manager of Training (10%)

    • Reports missionary progress to the Manager of Training.
    • Reports teacher performance to the Manager of Training.
    • Assists in interviewing, evaluating candidates’ teaching and language capacities, and making hiring decisions.
    • Assists in area training meetings.
    • Assists in coordinating training resources.
    • Recommendations for teacher dismissal
    • May be asked to assist in assessing the proficiency level of missionaries and teacher applicants in the target language.
    • May take on MTC Teacher responsibilities to teach missionaries as needs arise
    • May include other temporary assigned duties at the MTC (e.g. assisting with Mission Leadership Seminar)

    Qualifications

    • Must hold a current / valid temple recommend and/or be worthy to hold one.
    • Must be a returned missionary
    • 6 months experience as an MTC teacher
    • Preferred:1 year of experience with teaching, training, or tutoring in any capacity
    • Must be fluent in a non-native language (except for English or ESL area assignment).
    • Demonstrates knowledge of MTC language learning strategies and methodologies
    • Must have a solid understanding of MTC training principles, demonstrate problem-solving and organizational abilities, and have exceptional training competence.
    • Must communicate effectively
    • Demonstrates the ability to handle pressure well.
    • Must have technology skills to adequately function in the MTC environment.
    • Must have exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills.
    • Must have a solid understanding of Preach My Gospel second edition.
    • Demonstrates encouraging attitude, proactivity and self-motivation
    • To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time and using monitors/equipment.
    • Must be able to work shifts.

    MTC Teacher - Portuguese & Malagasy Speaking

    Job Description

    • This position is central to the missionaries' role to 'Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.' Teachers are an entry support level individual contributor that helps train missionaries in a variety of settings and topics. Training may include language skills, gospel doctrine/Preach My Gospel instruction, and missionary skill development. Teachers may train both junior and senior missionaries before they enter the MTC, while at the MTC and after leaving the MTC. They follow an approved curriculum and may be selected to participate in pilots and initiatives.

    Responsibilities

    • Reports to trainer or supervisor level in Training department.
    • Provides instruction, direction, counsel, and feedback to missionaries in the following training settings: one-on-one coaching, small group facilitation, large group workshops, and monitoring Canvas participation and discussion boards
    • Plans and prepares lessons following approved curriculum in coordination with a companion teacher (when applicable) to meet missionary’s needs
    • Directs missionaries in planning and accounting for their learning.
    • Implements direction and training from the Teacher Trainer/Supervisor, Manager of Training, and Senior Manager of Training. 
    • Attends weekly training meetings and participate in co-teacher meetings
    • Assists area leadership in coordinating with mission and Missionary Department leadership, as requested.
    • Reports on needs and progress of assigned tasks to leadership.
    • Coaches missionaries in preparation for and during practice and live lessons
    • May be asked to assist in assessing the proficiency level of missionaries and teacher applicants in the target language.
    • May take on additional responsibilities as an Actor to role-play as a non-member interested in learning about The Church of Jesus Christ
    • May take on additional responsibilities as a Training Area Assistant, as hours allow
    • May include other temporary assigned duties at the MTC (e.g. assisting with Mission Leadership Seminar)

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Must be a returned missionary
    • Fluency in specified second language (for language teaching positions)
    • Outstanding coaching, facilitation, and training skills and abilities
    • Knowledge and understanding of Preach My Gospel
    • Excellent interpersonal, prioritizing, professionalism, and leadership skills 
    • Self-motivated and able to work well with people
    • Willing to receive and implement feedback
    • Understanding of effective language-learning strategies (for language teaching positions)
    • Strong communication and organizational skills
    • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) in English and second language (for language teaching positions; non-verbal communication for ASL teachers)
    • To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting or standing for long periods of time and using monitors/equipment.

    Preferred:

    • MTC classroom teaching or tutoring experience
    • Experience with online interactions including chat, video conference, etc.
