    Readvertising - Manager: Counselling Centre

    Main Objectives

    • The provision of a holistic psychological support service to the students of the University.  The Counselling Centre serves a dual function: firstly, to provide psychological care to students and, secondly, as an accredited internship site for the training of intern psychologists.

    The Requirements

    Qualified Counselling Psychologist, registered with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA), with approximately 5 years relevant work experience over and above their internship where such experience includes:

    • Previous experience working with adolescents or individuals in early adulthood. The greater diversity of the experience with adolescents the better for example, experience in one-on-one counselling, group counselling and educational work.  
    • Those individuals with specific experience of working with University students will also be at an advantage
    • Previous experience supervising interns with a good track record of having done so
    • At least 3 years’ previous supervision/management experience

    Associate Professor/ Senior Lecturer in the Department of Accounting

    Main Objectives

    • All academics are responsible for the dissemination of knowledge (teaching and learning), creation of knowledge (research) and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties.  Academics are also expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level.
    • In addition, a Professor and an Associate Professor are to provide academic leadership in the following areas: teaching and learning; research and community engagement, as well as to contribute towards the governance of the institution. This leadership contribution of the Professor should be evidenced at the departmental, Faculty and institutional levels.
    • The purpose of this role is to lead and facilitate a capstone course in the second year of the CA-endorsed academic programme to develop the CA of the Future professional values, attitudes and acumens throughout the academic programme to enable students to integrate the relevant acumens and technical competencies.  

    The Requirements
    Associate Professor:

    CA(SA) in good standing at the date of application, with either a Master’s degree or PhD in Accounting, Auditing, Management Accounting and Finance, Taxation or Accounting Education, and relevant experience in the following:  

    • Professional experience in Commerce or Professional Services.
    • Considerable teaching experience in Accountancy at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels required on a SAICA CA-endorsed programme.
    • Supervision to graduation at the Master’s and/or PhD levels required.
    • Emerging national profile in the discipline.
    • Track record of administration, management and/or leadership roles.

    Senior Lecturer:

    CA(SA) in good standing at the date of application, with an intent to pursue a relevant Master’s degree, and relevant experience in the following:

    • Professional experience in Commerce or Professional Services; or
    • Teaching experience in Accountancy at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels required on a SAICA CA-endorsed programme.
    • Growing national profile in the discipline.

    Re-Advertising - Lecturer Part-Time(3 year contract)

    Main Objectives

    • For this position, the Academic will be responsible for disseminating knowledge (developing and teaching CE short courses), creating knowledge (engaged research and publication) and participating in community engagement and development.  

    There are four main objectives for this 3-year (part-time) contract post as listed below.

    The first objective is to lead and manage an online open-access journal hosted at Rhodes University and to ensure:

    • The quality of the intellectual content of the journal and overseeing the review process to ensure it is thorough, fair, and timely.
    • upholding the journal's objectives and scope and selecting papers that provide new, original, and important contributions to knowledge.
    • writing editorials, soliciting manuscripts on special issues, and sometimes assigning guest editors for these special issues.
    • promoting diversity among the journal’s contributing authors (nationally, regionally and internationally)
    • working with the RUCE editorial team to undertake and assist with some of the responsibilities

    The second main objective is to make critical and original contributions to CE scholarship at local, national and international levels by generating community engagement knowledge through publishing scholarly papers for accredited/peer-reviewed academic journals, and writing articles for newspapers and other publishing spaces.

    The third main objective is to work with Academics and Academic Departments to:

    • Promote Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR), Critical Service Learning (CSL) and Engaged Citizenry (EC)
    • Ability to design and facilitate short courses in CE (CBPR, CSL and EC)

    The fourth objective is to manage and coordinate the UCDP Collaborative Grant Project with four participating Universities by:

    • Working with RUCE staff, take overall responsibility for the communication with the participating academics and oversee the coordination of activities
    • Assisting with the open access publication of two books as part of the project and the organisation of the international conference in May 2026
    • Responsible for the grant outcomes and reporting.

    The Requirements

    • A Master's Degree in a relevant discipline, preferably Humanities or Social Science (register for a PhD)
    • Experience in Community Development (CD) and Community Engagement (CE) (partnership development, Service Learning, Engaged Citizenry and Engaged Research)
    • Tutoring, facilitation, or conference presentation experience required.  Experience in   developing short courses and teaching diverse groups in the University and the broader community  
    • Experience in conducting Community-Based Participatory Research
    • No research supervision is required.
    • Experience in managing an online open-access journal. 
    • Some administrative experience, albeit in informal contexts, e.g., student or sports clubs, work experience.

    Senior Lecturer Financial Accounting

    • National and emerging international profile in the discipline.
    • Track record of administration, management and/or leadership roles.

    Associate Professor:

    CA(SA) in good standing at the date of application, with either a Master’s degree or PhD in South African Taxation, and relevant experience in the following:

    • Professional experience in South African Taxation.

    Senior Lecturer/ Lecturer in the Department of Statistics

    Main Objectives

    • All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research), and engaging in community engagement, recognising differences in executing these responsibilities within the various departments and faculties. 
    • Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the departmental, faculty, and/or university levels. In addition, they are expected to be actively involved in the development and advancement of their discipline through professional service.

    The Requirements 
    Lecturer: 

    • At least a Master’s in the Mathematical Statistical Sciences, but not in Operations Research / Applied Statistics / Decision Science / Analytics / Applied Mathematics.
    • The Department of Statistics teaches mathematical statistics with emphasis on the development of the statistical theory and the subsequent application thereof, and not necessarily the application of statistics.
    • Tutoring and facilitation are required, as well as conference presentations and some teaching experience, which are added advantages.
    • Ability to teach in one or more of the following disciplinary areas of Mathematical Statistics at undergraduate levels: Distribution theory; Multivariate Analysis; General Linear Models, Generalised Linear Models; Classification/Statistical Learning; Bayesian Statistics; Financial Statistics; Stochastic Processes; Time Series Analysis; Bootstrap.
    • Some research supervision of postgraduate degrees is an added advantage.
    • Some administrative experience, albeit in informal contexts, e.g., student or sports clubs, and work experience.

    Senior Lecturer:
