    Superintendent (Mpumalanga)

    Description

    • This position exists to perform a technical and supervisory role on a tailings project, ensuring setting out of site, applying the relevant designs and plans, resources management, monitoring and reporting on progress of their section of the project against plan, as well as liaising with sub-contractors

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Business/Function Management

    • Ensure operational execution in their section aligns to organisational directives, as provided by senior superintendent
    • Ensure compliance and adherence to policies, procedures, practices and legislative requirements for their section, identify gaps, propose improvements and implement approved changes as required

    Financial, Commercial & Contract Management

    • Monitor and control the cost of materials and equipment, recommend and implement cost-effective solutions and proposals for the intended project
    • Order materials and following up on orders so that no delays are incurred because of material delays
    • Manage daily costing and feeds budget vs cost variances to site administrator and senior superintendent daily

    Risk Management & Compliance, Including ESG responsibility

    • Ensure all financial, technical, and operational risks and opportunities within to their area of responsibility are identified , with appropriate  mitigation actions implemented and monitored. Align relevant stakeholders accordingly and escalate risks as necessary.
    • Ensure that items manufactured off-site meet all specifications and tracks the supplier’s quality processes.

    Stakeholder Management (Internal/External)

    • Ensure professional interaction with client and stakeholders , at junior to middle management level
    • Responsible for subcontractor operational performance , and to identify and escalate operational , productivity , labour and cost risks relating to subcontractor management

    Operations & Project Management

    • Ensure that work is executed on time , in full, to standard, and first time right , in support of operational goals and targets for their section; maintain records on production outputs and generate reports , charts , and graphs
    • Oversee the selection, requisition, scheduling , and preparation of materials and plant for tailings work; ensure materials used align with specifications and assist with material usage control

    Management Operating System & Reporting

    • Put appropriate controls in place at point execution to inform management information and enable immediate corrective action when there are deviations from the plan
    • Ensure all relevant data is collected accurately and on time at the point of execution , and shared with relevant stakeholders in the required format, including cost, productivity , quality , safety , and health data ensuring full compliance

    Technical Management 

    • Responsible for setting and adherence to technical standards and work methods, for their section, in accordance with organisational and client requirements, policies, procedures and legislation

    SHEQ Management

    • Regularly check materials ensuring they are according to specifications, drawings and site instructions

    Staff Management

    • Ensure that labourers on site are kept informed of any issues that may concern them e.g. retrenchments, paid/unpaid public holidays, transport etc. by attending regular meetings with labour preventatives’ etc.

    Requirements
    QUALIFICATIONS

    • National Diploma in Civil or Mining/Metallurgical, Industrial Engineering or B Tech in Civil or Mining Engineering 
    • BSc Degree in Civil or Mining/ Metallurgical Engineering 

    EXPERIENCE

    • 2 to 3 years’ experience working in a tailing's environment
    • At least 1-2 years in a supervisory capacity preferable, or the monitoring and controlling of production activities

    SKILLS, QUALITIES AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    • Soliday understanding of the mining and mining production industry with specific emphasis on tailings business
    • Knowledge and understanding of technical and operational aspects core to the tailings industry 
    • Solid knowledge of methods and practises of deposition/remining /water /load & haul 
    • Basic financial and budgeting control skills

    General Worker (DRC)

    Description
    PURPOSE

    • This exciting opportunity exists in Fraser Alexander DRC to carry out instructions as per the line manager and operate as per site-specific needs.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Operations

    • Punctual adherence to site-specific time schedule/shift times.
    • Attend safety talks.
    • Conduct daily risk assessments.
    • Ensure proper shift handovers.
    • Conduct valve and barge operations.
    • Numbering of the valve stations.
    • Valve station positioning and extension in the paddock.
    • Packing of berm walls, wing walls, paddocks, and pool walls.
    • Dress the walls.
    • Paddock packing lines.
    • Colour coding of plant equipment.
    • Floodlight positioning.
    • Seeding and grass planting.
    • Installing an irrigation system.
    • Installing and maintaining berm drains.
    • Extending penstock cages.
    • Penstock operation and cleaning.
    • Extension of delivery lines.
    • Installation and maintenance of freeboard poles.
    • Maintaining travelling ways (non-fabricated).
    • Maintaining platforms and catwalks.
    • Deposit tailings in the required profile.
    • Deposit according to the deposition sequence, plan, cycle, and standards.
    • Assist and carry out tasks and instructions from higher line managers as requested.

    House Keeping

    • Practice good housekeeping in all work areas.
    • Clean tools and store equipment properly.

    Time Keeping

    • Accurate reporting of personal timekeeping

    Health and Safety

    • Follow written/verbal safe work procedures when executing specific tasks emergencies as per training.
    • Wear the correct PPE for each specific task.
    • Follow all safety and site emergency procedures as per training and site-specific standards.
    • Emergency preparedness.
    • Report unsafe acts and/or conditions.
    • Participation in all training-related activities.

    Requirements
    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Grade 10

    EXPERIENCE

    • No experience required but should be medically fit as per company standards.

    Operational Excellence Advisor (Gauteng)

    Description

    • This position exists to support the Business Improvement Initiatives through driving operational efficiencies by executing tactical and strategic projects. It will ensure that the Fraser Alexander Way of Work (FAWOW) Teams programme which is underpinned by the principles of Mission Directed Work Teams (MDWT) and other systems are supported to enable productivity, high quality of work, safe behavior and problem solving at the lowest level. The role will assist in cascading the organisational strategy and goals to frontline workforce while gathering operational requirements for digital transformation working hand in glove with the Data Analytics & Technology team, and other support departments in the organisation

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Strategic Management

    • Understands the complete Fraser Alexander’s strategic goals to achieve our purpose.
    • Work with the Operational Excellence Principal, Operational Excellence Specialist, Operations Managers and Site Managers on the data strategy implementation plan.
    • Support and assist the implementation of systems to monitor Fraser Alexander’s Strategic goals and work with team members to correct any variations.

    Digitisation

    • Requirements elicitation for manual workstreams to be digitised and automated.
    • User journey maps using Business Process Mapping tools for digital solutions.
    • Training and Change Management during digitised work implementation.
    • Facilitate and maintain UAT for digital solutions at operations.

    Operational Performance

    • Analyse operational activities, continuously scouting for improvement opportunities.
    • Facilitate and support the Continuous Improvement (BI) platform, including FAWOW Teams.
    • Assist with setting up of Governance structures for Business Improvement, inclusive of the Standard Operating Model principles and management routines.
    • Facilitate and support plans and the calculation the of monthly tracking of Value-at-Stake (VAS).
    • Reporting and tracking at project meetings will be on a daily/weekly basis, as required.

    Reporting

    • Maintain meetings records of KPI tracking dashboards for FAWOW Teams (MDWT)
    • Maintain records of Innovation progress and benefits tracking.
    • Facilitate production tracking reports as well as tracking effective execution matrices.

    Implement a Continuous Improvement (BI) platform, including FAWOW Teams

    • Support bottom-up operational excellence implementation.
    • Improving shift efficiency together with HR performance.
    • Train shift workers on problem solving skills & strategies (including short interval control).
    • Train front line supervisors to conduct short to medium term planning in line with the production plan.

    Internal Customer Relations

    • To share key insights, trends, best practices and benchmarking in Business Improvement.
    • Facilitate the processes between key enablers, e.g., Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, HR, Technical and Finance, ensuring that they are aligned to the requirements of the Business in terms of Standard Operating Model, the Business Execution Plans and any other initiatives.

    Innovation Management

    • Support and facilitate the maintenance of systems to track innovations across the business.
    • Maintain constant surveillance of trends in the target markets; technological innovations; changes in customer requirements, which could impact on the company and its services and provide for quick responses to changes.
    • Contribute to the implementation of innovative strategies for the company to influence the overall growth, profitability and development of the business.

    Requirements
    QUALIFICATIONS

    • B.Tech  or B.Eng/BSc in Engineering – Metallurgy, Industrial, Civil or Chemical Engineering
    • Postgraduate qualification in Business studies, finance or supply chain (desirable)
    • Advanced Excel, Power BI & DAX competence
    • Lean Six Sigma certification
    • Project management
    • SA drivers license

    EXPERIENCE

    • 2-4 years’ experience in mining, minerals & metals processing, manufacturing and technology industries.
    • At least one year Experience in Business Improvement, Process Engineering or Production environment.
    • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills (including RCA)
    • Developing Training material (SOP) and training shift personnel
    • Experience in Value Chain Management
    • Knowledge or experience of MDWT implementation
    • Proven track record of implementing business improvement initiatives
    • Experience in contributing to cost-reduction projects

    SKILLS, QUALITIES AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    • Strong negotiation skills
    • Good communication, conflict handling, interpersonal and quality control skills.
    • Computer skills (MS Office). Advantageous skills in SQL, VBA Python, DAX and Power BI
    • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
    • Project Management skills and excellent networking skills.
    • Knowledge of the Mining Industry and relevant legislation including the Mine Health and Safety Act.
    • Abreast of best practices and new technologies
    • Knowledge of Business Process Re-engineering and process, change management methodologies, and the Operating Model Principles.
