    Design Lead Yuppiechef

    Job Description

    • Do you see yourself as a solver of creative challenges? Are you a skilled designer across multiple channels, with team management experience? If you’re inspired to help shape the Yuppiechef brand as it grows, we have a role that’s perfect for you.
    • We’re looking for a new Design Lead to guide and manage our in-house design team, within the Creative team in our Marketing department. The role needs someone who loves the brand enough to push it to new places; someone who creates commercially and emotionally impactful work, and who can sell the story behind their ideas.
    • The role is based in Westlake, Cape Town, has two direct reports, and reports into the Creative Lead.

    Responsibilities
    What does the job entail?

    • Owning and guiding the Yuppiechef brand’s visual identity
    • Leading the conceptual creative thinking for marketing campaigns — mostly in social media, display, digital video, print, store windows and in-store, though we’re always looking for new channel opportunities
    • Driving design that balances campaign objectives and creative concepts
    • Executing on senior-level design for big campaigns while overseeing, reviewing and supporting the team’s output
    • Championing continuous improvement within the design function — upskilling the team, refining processes, and helping design play a stronger role in achieving business goals
    • Empathetically managing and growing a design team capable of technically executing your concepts — allocating projects between you and them, and ensuring they’re on track and unblocking them where needed
    • Representing the design team’s capacity and priorities in project planning to ensure balanced workloads and high output
    • Collaborating closely with our Photography and Copy teams to ensure cohesive, integrated creative output
    • Art directing and styling internal campaign shoots

    Qualifications
    What are the requirements?

    • You’ll need to have had 7-10 years’ experience as a designer, including at least 1-2 years of management experience
    • A world-class portfolio that demonstrates the level of skill and experience required for this role
    • 2+ years’ experience working in an ad agency would be a big help in working with creative briefs, and showing collaborative skills, working with writers, photographers, etc
    • Work experience with omnichannel retailers would be a benefit
    • You’ll need to be a skilled user of Adobe creative suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign – and be confident enough to train and grow mid-level designers. Video editing skills would be beneficial.
    • Ideally, you’ll have a tertiary qualification in graphic design from an accredited art/design school
