Internship & Experience at Sandvik

The Role

The organization is looking for Engineering Interns to be deployed in Mine Automation & digital Offering. In this role will be technical and operational exposure and business administration experience will be blended as part of your program. Throughout the internship you will gain experience in the organization through rotation according to your program plan, additional formal training and where applicable attain appropriate professional certifications.

Key performance areas

• Diagnosing system problems in minimal time and making repairs. 
• Making recommendations for improving service reliability and performance of equipment.
• Gathering and recording machine information at regular intervals to monitor performance.
• Escalating solving technical problems by seeking timely advice or assistance from technical support when necessary.
• Responsible for price quality in line with Sandvik’s process and rules
• Develop sales opportunities for Sandvik product lines within the defined territory or set of customers
• Define Sandvik offering using standard specification sheet
• Develop a sales plan for designated territory or set of customers
• Ensure customer follows Sandvik terms and conditions of sale
• Liaise between customers and Sandvik to ensure all issues are settled in a timely manner
• Provide the company with regular status reports on business activities, opportunity development and overall satisfaction of the customer’s base
• Work as part of the account management team for local
• Ensure sales tools is up to date with valid cases and customer visit reports
• Update sales tools
• Handling customers in a professional manner during difficult high-pressure situations.
• Documenting system problems and Preventative Maintenance (PM) performed in customer’s site log.
• Establishing PM schedules and performing according to company’s specifications

Profile Required 

• Mechanical Engineering Diploma/Degree
• University of Technology Students Requiring P1 & P2 will be considered.
• Computer literate - Excel Skills
• Critical, Analytical skills and a self-starter
• Project management skills
• Negotiation skills
• CAD Software

Job Description

Provides technical support in Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance. Maintains and improves machines and equipment to increase or maintain a high level of reliability, availability, cost efficiency and performance and customer relations and teamwork.

Key Performance Areas

• Electrical and Mechanical and Maintenance operations.
• Preventive maintenance, perform corrective actions, supports planning and preparation, monitors outcome, documentation (outcome, root cause, time, improvements).
• Conduct Risk Assessments, Shift Reporting and Incident Reporting.
• Work in accordance with standard operating procedures.
• Achievement of Key performance indicators.
• Follow quality and cleanliness standards.
• Communication of operational status and any deviations.
• Safety and housekeeping (5S) requirements. Comply to all Safe operation practices.
• Continuous improvements and development on a personal and operational level.

Profile required:

• Grade 12 / N3 Technical Qualification / Equivalent Qualification
• Section 13 Trade Certificate Millwright
• Basic Computer literacy, Microsoft excel, word, power point and outlook
• English proficiency 
• Must have Flameproofing
• Must have Gas Testing
• Relevant mining experience (5 years) 
• Underground mining environment in production section 
• Will be required to work shifts and be away from home for the duration of the shift. 
• Will be required to work away from home during the project phase  
• Need to be medically fit to work underground
• Working in high temperature areas 
• Will be required to work in difficult mining environment
• Must have a valid Car license
• Must have own transport
• Experience on MC400 series ( Advantageous)
