    Wage Controller

    The ideal candidate would be responsible for:

    • Compiling of monthly wages payrolls accurately and timeously;
    • Managing of Wage Clerks to ensure effective completion of payrolls;
    • Payment of 3rd parties and garnishees;
    • Dealing with and solving all wages related queries from employees and management;
    • General Wages administration;
    • Leave, bonus provisions;
    • Increase calculations and implementation;
    •  Attend to the timely and accurate payment of all wages  and making the appropriate statutory deductions and engagements in order to maintain and update payroll records;
    • Assist the Payroll Accountant in any and all payroll functions;
    • Maintenance of the Wages payroll system;
    • Oversee continuous workplace improvement program;
    • Adhere to Astral’s ethics policy;
    • Month end reports and Journals;
    • Any other duties and tasks as assigned by management from time to time.

    The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:

    • Matric and/or relevant qualification;
    • Excellent administration skills, management, accurate record keeping  and problem solving skills;
    • Must have at least 5 years payroll experience;
    • Exposure to Integrity Payroll and LN reporting system will be an added advantage;
    • Ability to work under pressure and swift resolving of employee and management queries;
    • It is essential that the successful candidate be self-motivated with the ability to meet strict deadlines and work overtime when necessary;
    • Understanding of the 20 Keys concept is essential;
    • Maintain confidentiality at all times;

    Quality Controller

    Requirements

    SKILLS REQUIRED

    • Must have excellent leadership skills to manage a team.
    • Ability to speak English and a second official language.
    • Must be able to communicate at all levels.
    • Must be able to work in a high-pressured environment.

    • The chosen candidate must be proactive, have good management communication and interpersonal skills as well as problem solving and planning skills.

    COMPUTER LITERACY USING THE FOLLOWING PACKAGES

    • Good Computer Skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook)

    The ideal candidate would be responsible for:

    • Assist in maintaining the HACCP and FSSC programs in the factory.
    • Assist in applying corrective actions where needed.
    • Monitoring staff personal hygiene
    • Managing and monitoring product flow
    • Adhering to Hygiene standards

    Ensuring that efficient recording takes place to ensure that areas and product conform to relevant standards:

    • Temperature monitoring of areas, product and equipment in various areas
    • Chlorine measurements
    • Conduct water and brine pick-up checks
    • Monitor product quality, weights, sealers, printing, traceability etc. on final product.
    • Monitor scales in various areas to ensure accurate weight checks.
    • Ensure foreign object controls are in place in various areas
    • Monitor animal welfare practices on the slaughtering side
    • Assist with drawing lab samples
    • Reporting all variances or non-conformances to the Production managers and Quality Assurance Manager
    • Manage and maintain the 20-keys system as set out for the department.

    Other requirements

    • Must have a Poultry Meat Examiner qualification (will be an advantage).
    • Proven PME experience in a manufacturing environment (will be an advantage).
    • Must be willing to work shifts and overtime including weekends and public holidays.
    • Sound Knowledge of FSSC 22000, GMP requirements and relevant guidelines and Quality Management Systems.

    Relief Site Supervisor

    The ideal candidate would be responsible for:

    • Biosecurity & Animal Welfare Management.
    • Must understanding and have knowledge of Rearing and Laying.
    • Planning and supervising all staff activities for staff reporting to this position
    • Supervising, recording and accurately reporting on daily housekeeping activities
    • Feed management ensuring water system is fully maintained.

    • Must have good administrative skills and ability to control documents.
    • Minimum of 3 years Poultry experience will be an advantage.
    • Passionate, self-motivated and performance driven.
    • A team player with the strong people skills and the ability to manage staff, be pro-active and able to work accurately and independently.
    • Willing to reside on site and available for after hour emergencies.
    • Working hours are irregular and include weekend duties.
    • Must be responsible and trustworthy.

    Finance Clerk

    The ideal candidate would be responsible for:

    • Preparing accurate daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
    • Resolving reconciling differences within the required timeframes.
    • Analysing general ledger accounts for reasonability testing.
    • Accurately processing relevant month-end journal entries on time.
    • Preparing and processing monthly journals and accruals.
    • Identify, close and or finalise open orders along with department managers.

    Plant Engineer

    The required qualifications, skills and experience for this role are:

    • Possession of a Government Certificate of Competence (GCC) is essential
    • Bachelor in Engineering, B-Tech or equivalent; Electrical / Mechanical
    • Must have at least 3 years maintenance and engineering experience within a poultry / FMCG / food manufacturing environment, or similar
    • Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and MS PowerPoint)
    • Working knowledge on AutoCAD is a great advantage

    The main tasks and activities of this role are:

    • To ensure the safe operation of the processing and utility operations as per the OHS Act 85 of 1993;
    • Continuously improve and enhance the sustainability of the operational environment into effective energy and resource allocation & utilisation, thereby reducing the environmental impact and carbon footprint of the County Fair operations
    • The continuous reduction of downtime within the processing environment through focused and results driven management and engineering strategies;
    • Planning, costing and execution of capital projects delivered on time and within budget;
    • Daily management of key utilities; energy, coal, refrigeration and water
    • Daily management of equipment up-time – OEE improvements
    • Continuous Improvement of all aspects under your control using the 20 Keys workplace improvement program;
    • Approve designs, calculations and specifications
    • Manage, and therefore continuously strive, to improve plant reliability / operational performance;

    • Daily effective problem-solving (RCA) and implementing mitigation strategies

    • Daily interaction with various departmental and Astral Group role players at senior management level.

    Animal Health Technician - KZN369

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Recognise disease manifestation in poultry.
    • Evaluate husbandry and biosecurity practices aimed at preventing disease in poultry.
    • Evaluate the storage and administration of vaccines to poultry.
    • Sampling of poultry for bacterial and viral diseases.
    • Routine biosecurity and welfare audits on production sites.
    • Routine lesion scoring and post mortems.
    • Evaluate feed and water quality
    • Provide reports on farm visit findings.
    • Administration of export registered and HPAI vaccinated facilities
    • Collect routine surveillance samples on HPAI vaccinated farms (weekly and monthly) if relevant. 

    Minimum Requirements:

    • National Diploma in Animal Health.
    • Registered with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) as an Animal Health Technician.

    Experience:

    • Minimum 3 to 5 years in broiler management.

    Proven experience within: 

    • Poultry production or similar animal background
    • Agriculture environment

    Technical Competencies:

    • Microsoft Office Suite 
    • Valid code B Driver’s license
