    Senior Electrical Engineer

    • Reporting to the Engineering Lead in Technical Services, the Senior Electrical Engineer will be the primary contact for the Refinery on electrical technical and design related matters. The role interfaces with other departments as a subject matter expert (SME) and to identify synergies of benefit for the Cape Town Refinery.
    • The Senior Electrical Engineer will be the primary contact for the Refinery on electrical technical and design related matters.

    Tasks will include but is not limited to:

    • Electrical Engineering Subject Matter Expert for Cape Town Refinery.
    • The Electrical Engineer will support compliance with Electrical Safe Work Practices Standards.
    • Provide input into Astron technical standards and procedures.

    Performs and or review designs for including but not limited to:

    • Electrical distribution systems (LV & MV)
    • Power system protection, metering and control systems
    • Motor control centers
    • Motor starters
    • Motors
    • Generators
    • VSD applications
    • Lighting
    • Cathodic protection
    • Earthing & lightning protection
    • UPS installations
    • Substations
    • Transformers
    • Cables
    • Switchgear
    • Distribution boards
    • General electrical installations
    • Electrical and Instrumentation interfaces
    • The Senior Electrical Engineer will support Capital Projects as the Astron Engineering resource.
    • Participating in constructability reviews for project and maintenance activities relevant to electrical installations and be part of project teams accepting installations and participating in commissioning activities as required.
    • Participating in multiple single and multi-disciplinary projects, managing safety, cost, schedule and quality of installation.
    • Manage deviations on electrical specifications and standards.
    • Resolve technical issues with suppliers and manufacturers.
    • Participating in manufacturing meetings with vendors and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
    • Aligns work priorities in line with Refinery Business objectives.
    • Supports the Reliability & Maintenance Department with technical problem solving and investigations.
    • Plant support.
    • Perform standby for technical electrical resource as required.
    • Turnaround technical support
    • Support reduction in Total Cost of Ownership by contributing technical knowledge and expertise.
    • Support management of change (MOC) process.
    • Manage the interfaces with external organizations including local authorities and Eskom.
    • Maintain competency to enable effective mentoring and coaching.
    • Mentor graduates and interns.
    • Senior electrical engineer shall assume the responsibility of the General Machines Regulation 2(7a) competent personnel appointee in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations to ensure the electrical installations are designed and installed to comply with the Electrical Installation Regulations and new electrical plant and machinery is safe to use.

    Professional Qualification and Certifications required:

    • University degree - BSc Eng (Elec) or BEng (Elec)
    • At least 8+ years working experience in the Projects and Engineering environment for Refinery / Terminals or Oil and Gas Facilities, with strong site experience.
    • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards e.g. SANS 10142, IEC, EX Standards
    • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations applicable to Electrical Installations
    • Sound experience with electrical installations in hazardous areas and relevant regulations & standards
    • Strong technical knowledge on motors, transformers, protection, LV/MV switchgear, earthing, power cables, power electronics and associated standards

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Professional registration with ECSA
    • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) will be an added advantage                                                                                              

    Work Experience:

    • Preferably experienced in the oil & gas environment
    • Design of electrical networks
    • Specification, procurement, testing and commissioning of electrical equipment
    • Fault finding and root cause analysis

    Contractor Retail Security Specialist

    Purpose of Job / Role Intent:

    • In conjunction with the Retail department, the role develops and implements Retail security policies for the Inland retail network, including Branded Marketers – with a strong influence on National. Leading from the specialist security assessment and mitigation instruction provided by this role, outcome would be that Retail sites experience lower repetitive violent crime and damage to the Brand. This position is AE customer facing and as evidenced by the Kantar customer perception survey; the job output has a direct relation on volume sustainability & growth.
    • Responsible for establishment of an environment which is secure for successful business operations within the retail environment by providing effective and efficient security advisory and solutions, to prevent harm / loss / damage to Personnel, Assets, Business Operations and the corporate reputation of Astron Energy.
    • Inland Retail Security Specialist identifies technological advancement and expert security knowledge to combat threats and ensure implementation of effective systems to protect proprietary information, company data, reputation and brand: providing a competitive advantage thus contributing to the organization’s bottom line.
    • The Inland Retail Security Specialist has governance responsibility to investigate allegations of conflict of interest, theft and fraud within the area of responsibility.
    • The Inland Retail Security Specialist interfaces with key strategic partners such as Legal, Corporate Affairs, IT, Human Resources, the SAPS and private security companies to ensure a coordinated response to any threat to the business.

    Professional Qualification and Certifications:

    • A Tertiary Qualification in SecurIty Or Security Management Or Risk Management Or Internal Controls Or Compliance or Engineering, or equivalent would be advantageous.
    • A Business or Marketing qualification/certification - very advantageous considering the symbiotic relationship between residual security measures required at a service station and the effect on the consumers’ experience. Relevant qualification in investigations, forensics or internal audit would be very advantageous.

    Work Experience:

    • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience. Retail service station industry work experience would be desired. Work experience with ATM equipment or Cash Management Devices/safes or equivalent security protection devices would be desired. Business Analyst or Data Analysis experience would be advantageous. Proficiency in performing investigations would be very advantageous. Demonstrated professional proficiency in identifying and assessing security threats & risks; and the development and implementation of appropriate security counter measures would be advantageous.

    Knowledge and skills:

    • Excellent problem solving skills Above average oral and written communication skills Presentation skills (presentation preparation and delivery) Strong report writing skills Expert knowledge in internal investigation or criminal techniques Computer literacy (Microsoft word, Excel & PowerPoint – intermediate or advanced level). Negotiation skills Sound decision making experience Ability to train others
