    Key Responsibilities:

    Editorial Leadership

    • Leading all editorial content relevant to Johannesburg and Pretoria, making sure it is engaging, high-quality, and on-brand.
    • Build and update an editorial calendar about what is best, most important, and most exciting in Johannesburg and Pretoria.
    • Manage, mentor and assign work to a team of freelance writers and contributors.
    • Edit and proofread articles, for clarity, according to fact, voice, and consistent high editorial standards.

    Content Strategy & Production

    • Create content strategies that reflect the most recent trends, events and venues that would be appreciated by our target audience.
    • Work in close collaboration with the editorial and promotions teams to guarantee that content is configured for both SEO and audience engagement.
    • Write, commission, and edit an array of content types including all-inclusive travel guides, restaurants and venue write-ups, interviews, and lifestyle features.

    City Expertise

    • Use your in-depth, close knowledge of a local Johannesburg and Pretoria culture, food, and lifestyle to put together content that is authentic and engaging.
    • Have a finger on the pulse of the contemporary trends, events, and food & drink happenings so that content is fresh and relevant.

    Collaborating

    • Alongside the Content Director for South Africa, closely execute the strategy while aligning on broader editorial objectives and vision.
    • Participate in creative brainstorming for future content ideas.
    • Cross-department collaboration with marketing, social media, and others to amplify content and drive audience growth.

    Requirements

    What We Require

    Minimum Requirements

    • A diploma or degree in Journalism or a related field.

     Experience & Skills

    • At least 5 years of editorial experience in travel, lifestyle, or food journalism, with a strong portfolio.
    • Proven ability to manage writers and freelancers, ensuring high-quality content.
    • In-depth personal knowledge about Johannesburg and Pretoria food, culture, and lifestyle; you aren't merely acquainted; you're a true local.
    • Excellent English skills with an engaging, detail-oriented writing style.
    • Strong editorial judgment and experience creating content for digital audiences.
    • Organised, deadline-driven, and collaborative team player.
    • Creative, trend-savvy, and adaptable to remote or office work environments.

    Digital Content Coordinator

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Upload and manage content from writers, including articles, reviews, and guides.
    • Input and update information for venues, events, and other content as required.
    • Maintain and build the image library, ensuring all images are correctly catalogued and properly tagged.
    • Work closely with the editorial and content teams to ensure accurate, timely publication of all materials.
    • Perform routine CMS tasks and ensure all content is properly formatted and aligned with Time Out’s brand and standards.
    • Assist with basic content management workflows, including metadata management and SEO best practices.

    Requirements

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or relevant certifications

    Skills & Experience:

    • Some experience working with CMS systems and content publishing platforms.
    • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
    • Basic knowledge of image management and digital asset organisation.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
    • A proactive approach with good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
    • Connect from both their Cape Town office and their home (it will be a hybrid setup).
    • A fascination with local events, fun, and the lifestyle of South Africa.
    • Willingness to learn new skills and a thirst for adventure.
    • Comfortable working from home, office and anywhere this role takes you.
