    Enrolled Nurse

    Main Focus Areas

    • The Enrolled Nurse is responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of a patient or group of patients and will function under the direct and/or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse and Unit Manager.

    Key Performance Areas: (include but are not limited to)

    • Ensure that all documentation is maintained timeously and accurately, reflecting patient care
    • Maintain a therapeutic, clean and safe environment that is free from medico-legal hazards
    • Contribute to the holistic care of patients
    • Participate in ward/unit’s quality improvement programme
    • Attend handover of report at shift commencement
    • Effective communication with patients’ regarding their care
    • Promotion of patient overall health and wellbeing
    • Refer all complaints from patients and doctors to sister-in-charge of the unit
    • Carry out all departmental duties as assigned by supervisors and ensure timeous completion of all delegated tasks

    Post Requirements: (include but are not limited to)

    • Registration with the South African Nursing Council as an Enrolled Nurse
    • Compliance with the SANC code for an Enrolled Nurse and all applicable health care legislation
    • Relevant experience in the nursing discipline would be an advantage

    SPH - Registered Nurse ICU Experienced

    Main Focus Areas

    • The Registered Nurse  will render and promote cost effective, safe quality patient care in accordance with hospital standards and policies. The incumbent will further be responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of a patient or a group of patients, for assessing, planning, executing and supervising the implementation of care to meet patient needs.

    • Practice patient care according to the Scope of Practice and assume total responsibility for these activities

    Clinical Case Manager

    Main Focus Areas

    • The Clinical Case Manager utilising clinical knowledge and expertise, mitigates financial risk through comprehensive and accurate coding of hospital events, and communication with funders on the justification for hospitalization level of care and length of stay.​

    Key Performance Areas: (include but are not limited to)

    • Responsible for the application of clinical knowledge in justifying patient hospitalization in terms of treatment, length of stay and level of care.​
    • Monitor and action risks related to medical aid benefits and hospitalization.​
    • Ensure accurate specific and comprehensive clinical coding.​
    • Timeous, effective communication and follow-up with medical aids.​
    • Review authorization aspects approved, mitigating financial risk and final releasing of the case for billing.​
    • Liaise with a network of internal and external stakeholders regarding patient treatment.​
    • Adhere to the NHN Managed Health Care rules engagement.​
    • Compliance with all industry relevant legislative acts, regulations and circulars.​

    Post Requirements: (include but are not limited to)

    • B Degree/Diploma Nursing qualification and/or Case Management qualification will be an advantage.​

    • ICD 10 / CPT coding qualification or experience.​
    • SAP IS-H experience will be advantageous.​

    Healthcare Technology Assistant

    Main Focus Areas

    • The Healthcare Technology assistant will be responsible for assisting in the management, maintenance and co-ordination of all tasks and activities associated with Healthcare Technology within the hospital

    Key Performance Areas: (include but are not limited to)

    • Maintaining of all equipment in the facility​
    • Daily inspecting, testing and or calibration of equipment​

    Occupational Therapist Acute Rehab Centre

    Main Focus Areas

    • A vacancy exists for a Occupational Therapist within the Acute Rehabilitation Unit at Ethekwini Hospital & Heart Centre. This successful candidates will report to Practice Manager.

    Key Performance Areas: (include but are not limited to)

    • The occupational therapist will provide holistic occupational therapy to in-patients requiring occupational therapy in the rehabilitation unit. Occupational Therapists will provide an assessment of the patient’s level of independence in self-care and need for a wheelchair on admission in the rehabilitation unit.
    • Provide occupational therapy assessment and intervention to in-patients who require occupational therapy including on some weekends and public holidays.
    • Conduct assessments, plan and implement occupational therapy intervention to patients with e.g. neurological disorders such as TBI, CVA, SCI, orthopedic conditions or multi-morbidity conditions such as Guillain Barre, etc. in collaboration with other therapy disciplines.
    • Assess all Stroke patients and other relevant patients’ self-care ability and level of dependence upon admission as well as need for a wheelchair.
    • Educate patients and their families about the patient’s condition.
    • Assessment for the need for assistive devices and the motivation for the required assistive devices to the funder and family.
    • Participate in discharge planning and carer training.
    • Contribute to weekly team and family meetings.
    • Keep accurate and timeous records and reports.
    • Effectively respond to queries and handle accordingly.
    • Function effectively as a part of an interdisciplinary team to meet the requirements of quality patient care.
    • Attend and contribute towards Continuous Professional Development activities of the unit.
    • Supervision and training of Locum staff and students, as required.
    • Promote and maintain sound and productive relationships with referral sources and stakeholders in the field of Rehabilitation.

    Post Requirements: (include but are not limited to)

    • Bachelor of Occupational Therapy degree from an accredited institution.
    • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an OT
    • Current registration in good standing with the HPCSA and compliance with all applicable healthcare legislation.
    • Compulsory Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    • Demonstrated clinical expertise, with 2–5 years’ post-qualification experience in an acute hospital setting.
    • Proven experience working in an Acute Rehabilitation environment (essential).
    • Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) training will be an advantage.
    • Experience in Aqua-therapy will be an advantage.
    • Computer literacy and proficiency in relevant clinical and administrative systems.
    • Sound knowledge of managing and coordinating occupational therapy clinical practice and resources within the unit.
