    Data Centre Technician

    About Us    

    • We are currently looking for an Data Centre Technician in Cape Town to work within the specialised dedicated Data Centre and engineering team, giving best in service class and support on all engineering activities within the Client’s data facility centres. Ensuring the Uptime is maintained, and the business is not exposed to risk either through BAU or projects works. To be able to have a good understanding of Data Centre equipment & to be a Team worker. The successful incumbent will be required to work shifts.

    Duties & Responsibilities    
    Engineering Operations

    • Have a minimum of 2 years knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering systems in Data Centres and critical sites
    • Ensure that all works undertaken at critical sites comply with client’s specifications & that they also comply with the Local Authorities regulations and are undertaken in such a manner in accordance with process and that the environments are not exposed to any risk
    • Assist in the monitoring of all Data Centre critical systems and undertake instruction and actions that ensure that the facility is safe and will not be exposed to any unnecessary risk
    • Undertake roles and responsibilities in accordance with the Technical site manager’s decisions & instructions
    • Undertake maintenance activities within Data Centres to local standards and meet business demands ensuring that Uptime of the Data Centres are in accordance with standards such as SANS, Uptime institute and Client’s standards
    • Research, own, and disseminate technical knowledge on health, safety, and risk functions to ensure compliance
    • Research alternative systems and make recommendations to the Technical site manager
    • Ensure that all critical loads throughout the portfolio are monitored regularly and analyse trending
    • Undertake full operational responsibilities of CRES engineering with the guidance of change control in Data Centre and critical business locations
    • Understand the OHS regulations & ensure that contractors abide by these at all times when on site. Stop any unsafe work & report this to the site Technical Manager
    • Identify alternative methods to improve site controls & contractor management & make recommendations to the Technical site manager

    Risk & Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards in regards to the critical infrastructure within Data Centre environments
    • Ensure OHS compliance at all times for all on the site & stop & report any unsafe behaviour to the Technical Manager immediately
    • Ensuring that all Tsebo & Client regulatory training is completed in accordance with Tsebo & Client requirements
    • Provide Technical input to the relevant Risk Management Strategy by identifying, reporting and remediating risks that may result in a business interruption

    Innovations

    • Produce periodic proposals for improved site operations, cost reduction / cost optimisation opportunities, best in class for best value solutions
    • Identify & notify the Technical Manager of any ideas that would improve site Safety & efficiency

    Technical Input

    • Research new Data Centre initiatives and focus on optimisation of effective solutions for reductions in costs such as lowering of the PUE & power optimization
    • Provide assistance & technical input into the business to ensure the integrity of the Data Centre portfolio is well supported and is not exposed to unnecessary risk
    • Research, review and input into any project, change or any other Data Centre activity ensuring that it meets Client’s standards or best business practice
    • Maintaining knowledge of legislation & statutory regulations & keep abreast of external and industry best practice through participation in industry forum, conferences and other areas of continued professional development (as required by professional bodies)

    Skills and Competencies    

    • Minimum of 4 years experience of Mechanical & Electrical services
    • Minimum of 2 years working within the financial banking sector
    • Minimum of 2 years knowledge and experience within data centre environments
    • Must have previous experience & knowledge of Medium Voltage systems & understand the risks & dangers associated with this & High voltage types of equipment
    • Must have previous experience on at least two of the following disciplines, Generators, UPS Units (Large) & or Chiller cooling plant
    • Fully Understand the critical nature & risks of working in a data centre environment
    • Analytical & logical fault-finding skills
    • Good Electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills
    • Understanding & Interpretation of wiring diagrams and engineering drawings
    • Understanding of system flow diagrams
    • Good understanding of emergency standby power equipment operation

    Qualifications    
    Minimum

    • Grade 12
    • Qualified Artisan Electrical / Mechanical / Millwright
    • Minimum N4 Electrical National Certificate
    • Code 8 Drivers licence

    Ideal

    • High Voltage power understanding
    • Data Centre
    • MV Switch Gear experience
    • CDCP or equivalent qualification in Data Centre operations understanding

    BMS Operator - Gauteng

    • We are currently looking for BMS Operator in Johannesburg to provide an efficient and effective planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and remedial works programme in a manner that achieves the objectives of the client by proactively administering the workplace services in accordance with the Master Service Agreement

    Duties & Responsibilities    
    Perform Daily

    • Check for alarm indications. Investigate and implement rectification plans as necessary.
    • Monitor critical features and ensure process and equipment are operating according to set parameters

    Set up and execute the following ensuring they are performed over a 3 Monthly cycle

    • Clean the VDU, printer and central processor using a cloth which is clean and free from loose fibres and metallic threads.
    • Ensure the central processor filters and cleaned & replaced as required.

    Set up and execute the following ensuring they are performed over an Annual Cycle

    • Confirm that all valves/actuators stroke correctly between 0 and 100% and that plant stops & starts as required.
    • Inspect the outstation batteries and check that they are in working condition.

    Change Control

    • Represent the Client /Tsebo at the Change Request Committee to ensure the details of the Request are clearly understood by the Committee Members
    • Report the Committee decisions and distribute the Change Request number to the applicable technician/s, Follow up on outstanding/open Change request

    Change Control

    Customer Service & Satisfaction

    • Ensure high level of customer service is provided and maintained
    • Ensure that weekly documented audits/ inspections by quality controller are presented to Site manager for signature before filing

    Subcontractor Management

    • Escort and oversee sub-contractors where necessary and ensure all works are carried out in accordance with OHS Act requirements
    • Ensure all sub-contractors leave the area in a clean and tidy state when the work is completed and ensure the sub-contractors remove their rubbish and waste from site once the work is completed

    ISO 9001; 14001 & 18001 – Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety Standards

    • Adhere to the TFS’s Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) Management System’s Policies & Procedures of as applicable to this position

    Ad Hoc

    • Any reasonable action requested by management.

    Skills and Competencies    

    • 3 years experience in similar position
    • Excellent customer relation skills
    • Good communication skills
    • Ability to plan, organise and control own work effort
    • Ability to work under pressure
    • Knowledge of equipment, materials and suppliers used in facilities management.
    • Have a good knowledge of machine tools, general maintenance.
    • Experience within Data Centres an added advantage

    • Familiarity with building layouts and infrastructures

    • Time Management Skills
    • Good knowledge of electrical fixtures, fittings, repairs and maintenance thereof

    Qualifications    

    • Grade 12
    • A Technical N3/4 Certification is preferable
    • A Secretarial or Office Administrator certificate/diploma would be an added advantage
