    Senior Electrical Designer / 3D Modeller (12-Month Fixed Term Contract)

    Summary

    • The Senior Electrical Designer (12-month Fixed Term Contract) is responsible for supervising a team of electrical designers and assisting in the development and production of 2D/3D drawing deliverables. Additionally, the Senior Electrical Designer also assists in the resolution of all technical design issues and directs the activities of other designers in the team to meet project schedule objectives. 

    Key Responsibilities

    • Adhere to and promote the Hatch corporate safety culture. 
    • Manage the schedule for a team of designers on project or program including multidiscipline interactions. 
    • Coordinate work with the lead electrical engineer, project and engineering managers including taking responsibility for timely release of team deliverables. 
    • Supervise, review, check and be responsible for quality of electrical designs performed by others in the design team. 
    • Prioritize project or program discipline actions for the purpose of achieving deliverable quality and adherence to schedule. 
    • Prepare design concepts for internal and client reviews in collaboration with engineering team. 
    • Produce detailed engineering design drawings and documentation for approved concepts/projects. 
    • Perform 3D model clash detection and coordinate electrical design with other disciplines. 
    • Assist in the preparation of project specific procedures (symbols, cell libraries, borders etc). 
    • Perform complex plant layout and electrical systems using 3D design modeling tools. 
    • Contribute to the development of different multidisciplinary design solutions and mentor other designers. Provide guidance on Hatch quality standards. 
    • Lead formal electrical design reviews and supervise the work of electrical designers. 
    • Responsible for electrical design work related to quantity estimation effort on project or program including direct quantity (MTO) take-off from a 3D model, 2D drawings, sketches and historical data. 
    • Resolve electrical design issues throughout project lifecycle as required. 
    • Apply industry best practices and applicable codes and standards (IEEE, NEC, CEC, IEC, etc). 
    • Participate in the selection of electrical design candidates as required. 

    Qualifications and Experience (Essential):

    • Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. 
    • Minimum of ten years of solid electrical engineering design experience.  
    • Proficient in the use of Auto CAD, Microstation and COMOS,
    • Extensive experience with 2D and 3D design tools, including Bentley BRCM, Intergraph and COMOS. 
    • Sound design and modeling skills for Industrial plant layout, electrical design and detailing.  
    • Thorough knowledge of electrical equipment and materials.  
    • Sound knowledge of industry or regulatory codes and standards for electrical systems.  
    • Experience with multidisciplinary design coordination.  
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.  
    • Sound knowledge of designing electrical systems and workflows for electrical systems. 
    • Good understanding of PFDs and P&IDs.  
    • Site experience in walk-downs, field measurements and commissioning
    • Experience within a large project, multidisciplinary EPCM environment. 
    • Good leadership skills.

    Senior Geotechnical Engineer

    Job Purpose

    • Hatch is looking to expand its service offering in the region (Africa, Europe, Middle East, and India) by extending its team of highly skilled geotechnical engineers. Hatch has already built a considerable global team in the Engineering Sciences Group and now seeks to expand that impact on the African continent in the Project Delivery Group within the Metals, Energy and Infrastructure sectors. The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will engage with Clients, perform designs, mentor junior engineers and bid for new work with support from our local expert as well as specialists around the globe while supporting project delivery.

    Key Responsibilities
    Design & Technical:

    • Lead advanced geotechnical studies with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope
    • Perform conceptual and detailed geotechnical engineering design
    • Participate in scoping requirements for proposals
    • Assist with growing the local geotechnical discipline in the Africa, Europe, Middle East and India
    • Participate in and contribute to design reviews
    • Prepare and/or review project procedures, standard specifications and design criteria

    Qualifications & Experience:

    • Post-graduate degree in Geotechnical Engineering is considered essential
    • Registered as a Professional Engineer
    • 10+ years’ experience in relevant geotechnical field within the consulting industry
    • Experience with working on projects in a multi-disciplinary environment
    • Sound understanding of design engineering codes and technical standards

    Senior Fire Engineer

    • Hatch is looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to join their Fire Safety Group in Johannesburg. The role of Senior Fire Safety Engineer seems to be quite dynamic, requiring close collaboration with project management, clients, engineers, and the global team. The emphasis on developing expertise and creating customized fire safety solutions suggests that this position would be both challenging and rewarding.

    Responsibilities:

    • Conduct fire risk analysis, code compliance assessments, and conceptual fire safety designs in code consulting on projects with respect to the Building & Fire Codes and related SANS, NFPA, and FM Global standards.

    Senior Piping Engineer

    • The Senior Piping Engineer defines and develops the plan to meet the Project requirements and manages a team of piping engineers and designers to ensure regulatory code compliance and quality of deliverables.  In addition, the Senior Piping Engineer assists in achieving the required project schedules and costs and resolution of all technical issues related to the discipline.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Ensure that all work designed or supplied by the Piping engineering discipline complies with the relevant sections of mandatory health and safety standards, including any pressure piping regulation or code referred to within the required jurisdiction for the Project with due consideration of relevant client engineering standards.
    • Develop a thorough understanding of the project requirements as they relate to scope, execution strategy, cost and schedule with the Engineering Manager.
    • Prepare a list of engineering deliverables and time-based functions to facilitate the planning and control of the engineering budget.
    • Develop the Piping work plan for insertion into the Project specific execution plan and develop and maintain the Project’s scope of work documentation and revise as required during the design evolution.
    • Manage and review the Piping engineering work packages associated with all deliverables and time-based functions to ensure that budgets and schedules are being met and take corrective action if necessary.
    • Review and approve Piping technical deliverables.
    • Assist in the preparation and development of project specific procedures.
    • Manage Piping system requirements to achieve the Project results and monitor effectiveness.
    • Represent the Piping practice in project engineering co-ordination meetings.
    • Ensure co-ordination, between the Piping team and other disciplines of all activities being performed as the design evolves
    • Ensure that quality audits of engineering work are carried out in accordance with Project procedures and the quality assurance plan and maintain technical documentation.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Supervisor (8-month Fixed Term Contract)

    Summary

    • Electrical and Instrumentation Supervisor (8-month Fixed Term Contract) is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the construction contractors and maintaining the project performance goals for the Electrical and Instrumentation discipline within his geographic area of responsibility. Supervisors coordinate work efforts and ensure activities are sequenced in accordance with the project schedule.     Senior Engineer - Pyrometallurgy

    As the successful candidate, you will: 

    • Lead the development of pyrometallurgical projects from Concept Study to Detailed Engineering 
    • Have a fundamental understanding of pyrometallurgy and process conditions that serve as input into pyrometallurgical equipment design features 
    • Be involved in conduction and completion of the process engineering component of studies and detailed design for projects;  
    • Good working knowledge of pyrometallurgical vessels and ancillary systems such as feed systems, gas handling systems, cooling water systems and post-taphole operations;  
    • Lead the understanding, development and implementation of process technology 
    • Collaborate or lead commissioning of equipment and systems, notably furnace start-ups

    • Chemical engineering, metallurgy, chemistry, or other relevant degree

    • Strong leadership skills and ability to act as Client liaison for key customers
