    Underwriting Quality Assurance Officer

    We are excited to have established a new Underwriting and Operations team in Cape Town and to ensure our team is providing the best customer experience we have newly created position for an Underwriting Quality Assurance Officer to join us.

    Reporting to the General Manager International Life Solutions, this role is responsible for the monitoring of the quality and customer experience provided by our Underwriting team. By identifying training needs, reviewing feedback and providing reporting to internal business partners, you will contribute to the delivery of high standards and practices in order to maintain a profitable risk portfolio for TAL.

    To be successful in your application we are looking for the following skills and experience:

    • Minimum 10 years underwriting experience gained in an environment requiring development of new and innovative approaches
    • Strong medical and financial underwriting skills and qualification
    • Good working knowledge of professional standards and codes
    • Proven ability to work in cross-functional teams
    • Strong customer focus

    Individual Life Actuary

    We have recently established a new office in Cape Town and we have a unique opportunity available for a qualified actuary to join us as Individual Life Actuary (Value Manager).

    This newly created position will provide strategic support for TAL’s Individual Life Head of Value Management and assist in day to day management of the Pricing and Value Management function. This function encompasses the delivery of the actuarial pricing support and ongoing profitability management of TAL’s Individual Life product offering, as well as value adding business projects and strategic initiatives.

    To be successful in your application we are looking for the following skills and experience:

    • Nearly/Newly Qualified actuary with proven senior-level actuarial and business management experience in the life insurance industry
    • Ability to develop knowledge of the Australian life insurance market including industry structure and trends, competitors, drivers and profitability
    • High level of relationship development skills
    • Strategic thinker and commercially driven
    • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written
    • Demonstrated experience in delivering multiple projects within budget and planned timeframes
    • Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop junior team members

    This role is also part of the local office leadership group responsible for playing a hands on in development and leadership of the TAL Cape Town office across multiple functions.

    As an Underwriter at TAL you will be working with and supported by our specialist team in Australia including Underwriting Managers , our Chief Medical Officer and Forensic Accountant, who will work with you and the wider team to ensure maintenance of TAL’s risk philosophy and profitability through sound underwriting standards.

    To be successful in your application we are looking for the following skills and experience:

    • Demonstrated underwriting expertise gained from working in a similar position
    • A comprehensive understanding of the life insurance industry, including any new approaches or practices being introduced
    • Working knowledge of professional standards and codes
    • Strong medical, financial and systems knowledge
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with overseas stakeholders
    • Ability to work autonomously
    • High attention to detail
